Gun Control: Bring it!

nevermind

Economy going to shit, home reposessions rising massively, government utterly lacking in financial competence, two foreign wars draining the public purse…

… and y’all are most worried about nastly ol’ Obama taking away your [del]penis substitutes[/del] shooters?

And yet people still wonder why America is sinking slowly into the mire.

So yeah, you fight for yer rights to shoot each other… at the rate you’re going it’s all you’ll have left before too long.

Exactly. I recall before the election various pro-gun people talking about how they opposed Obama because of guns, and that guns overrode everything else.

I’m a militant atheist, and plenty of people have called me names like “fanatic” or “bigoted” or “irrational” because of it. But you know what ? I voted for Obama, despite him being a believer, because I am capable of caring about more than one issue at a time.

As best as I can tell, the OP is pointing to a bunch of threads on the Dope as evidence that Obama’s coming to take people’s guns away.

'Nuff said.

And didn’t have an atheist to vote for.

And I could have chosen to vote for no one.

Okay, that’s it: I’m gonna build my own damn gun; one that I’ve wanted for years. Get ready for the advent of the fully-automatic, belt-fed, water-cooled, swiveled mounted, Gatling barreled 8 gauge shotgun. Come take that one away from me, you flea flicking sissies.

I assume I’m one of the people you’re talking about. The reason I don’t trust him isn’t that he supports gun control laws, it’s that he supports bad gun control laws. Anyone who supports the reintroduction of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, a law that targets cosmetic features of a category of weapons that are rarely used to commit crimes, is either an idiot or willing to cater to idiots at the expense of innocent people’s rights. Either of those is unacceptable in a politician.

He explicitly told his followers to buy swords. Were swords commonly carried by civilians back then or were they military weapons?

Not to mention the entire tone of the OP is one begging for a fight. It’s actually amusing.

Nuh, it’s biscuit game.

And the choice you had was between Obama or McCain, not Obama and some ideal. Are you going to claim that McCain wasn’t “willing to cater to idiots at the expense of innocent people’s rights” ?

Gun rights are a trivial issue compared to the other problems facing this country. They aren’t going to be gotten rid of by Obama or anyone else; there’s too many, the gun lobby is too powerful, and Americans too collectively stupid and self destructive. They’ll be all over indefinitely, and all of significance they’ll ever do is increase the death rate and empower the thugs. And the gun lovers will keep sacrificing people’s lives and prosperity and civil rights on the altar of guns, patting themselves on the back the whole time.

I love being in both camps–I don’t think Obama’s going to do anything terribly effective with regard to gun bans (the fact the assault weapons ban doesn’t actually ban anything but cosmetic features is one of the reasons I don’t much care about it–I can still get essentially the same weapon if I want it, just with a wood finish.) and I felt and feel that gun ownership, while an important issue, is not THE issue.

So yeah, pro-gun-rights, Obama-voting Independent here. Pennsylvania seems to breed a lot of us.

Nah. Una Person busted you. You’re here doing your usual disingenuous troll routine that you do in every gun-related thread.

Your Bolshevik, Stalinist, and Maoist forefathers were great believers in guns. They killed 100 million people. Every time you point the finger at other people and shout “fanatics and murderers!” you have three fingers pointing at yourself. You are the heir to a century of systematic murder, you commie fuck; I look forward to the day when your twisted kind become historical curiosities for school children to shake their heads and wonder at.

 This kind of thing sounds insane. I know it’s Pit hyperbole. Still, when people talk about gun nuttery, they usually mean this kind of thing, and you’re only talking about NRA membership and gun control advocacy here, not shooting federal agents!

Overall I’m agnotic on this issue: I’m probably like most people in that I think people have the right to have guns, but get weirded out by this kind of rhetoric and by the NRA in general. I’m fine with sensible restrictions and my limited background here leads me to believe the AWB is not sensible - not because it’s unreasonably restrictive but because the decisions about what is and is not an assault weapon were (as someone else said) “cosmetic” and, I guess, were mostly PR calls made by people who didn’t know much about guns and were playing to parts of the public that didn’t know either. That’s not how laws should work.

Goes without saying that I don’t see the passion on this issue. I’m not sure what Obama’s planning to do; his comment on Heller was noncommital.

Trenchant and forcefully put, and would be even more devastating if Der Trihs were actually a Communist.

He’s an avowed leftist. Also, it’s clear you’ve not paid attention to his name.

He masturbated while writing the OP, didn’t he?

When Obama comes for your guns, just keep shooting till the ammo runs out. I’m sure it’ll make you feel a lot better.

I thought it just meant that he was on a sports scholarship, but not eligible to play this year.
