and a startling revelation. Actually bothering to prosecute illegal gun ownership works. Hooray!

As long as we’re posting links…
One of the most valuable resources I’ve found for tracking news and opinions about gun control efforts and gun ownership is CalNRA. Every day, they collect news of note and create links. Good readin’.
ExTank: You left out Desert Eagle. How could you leave out the makers of the .50 auto?!
Besides the fact that a .50 auto is damn near useless, I mean.
Because I fired one once and it damned near took my arm off! Cool looking gun, but not for me. I had the .44 for a while, but traded it in for credit towards a Colt 1911A1 Gold Cup National Match, with a stainless receiver group and a blued (and beautifully engraved) slide mechanism.
I prefer Ruger and Colt Six-Guns in .45 Colt, Lever guns in about any caliber, and big-bore hog-legs, even though I have a Winchester Model 70 LRH Laredo 7mm Magnum (Bolt Action) tarted up like a sniper rifle and a scoped Oly. Arms PRC 99 (M16A2 semi-auto only) that are absolute hammers!
That and the American Firearms Page doesn’t have Desert Eagle on its list of manufcaturers; Desert Eagle being a product of the Israeli Military Industries.
I seriously doubt that I.M.I. is breaking any kind of sweat over our gun control conundrums

ExTank wrote, re the Desert Eagle .50 Auto:
Not for me, either. The one time I fired one, it required all my strength to keep the gun on target enough to so much as hit the paper at 4 yards. And when I did grip it tightly enough to control it, the kick turned my palm a bright pink.
Okay, now ya gotta tell me: What in the names of Odin and Frigg is a “big-bore hog leg”? Is that a euphemism for a shotgun?
Ah. embarrassed blush Well, that might have something to do withit not being on your list of American arms manufacturers, then.
Alright, you guys got me curious.
When I was in the Navy, one of the Marines aboard my ship was a sniper. His rifle was a 50 cal. with a big fat barrel, a really long scope, and it was a single shot IIRC. I seem to remember a bipod on the end of the barrel.
Anyway, he claimed to be able to hit a man at a distance of over a mile. That’s a long way. Was this typical Marine B.S :), or is such a thing possible.

Teach your kids to bungee jump.
One them might have to cross a bridge someday.
Tracer: yeah, “hog leg” is one of the euphimisms for a shotgun, typically a sawed-off or short barreled one. God alone knows why.
As I’m in to Cowboy Shooting, most of my firearms are either replicas of 19th century firearms, or modern guns made with technology consistent with 19th century firearms (such as the Ruger Vaquero single-action revolvers, and Colt’s most excellent Old Army and Peacemaker lines), but I have a Stoeger Arms “Uplander” 12ga. with an 20" barrel, commonly referred to as a “[stage]coach” gun. A real hog leg.
ManGeorge: IIRC, special forces (Navy SEALS and Marine Force Recon) use the Barret Model 82A1 Sniper Rifle for getting down-and-dirty at extremely long ranges; it’s range specifications aren’t listed, but the Browning M2 Heavy Barrel Machine Gun (which I am very familiar with) that the Barret is based upon can accurately hit targets out to 1800 meters with standard military ammo and a simple optical sight.
I suppose an accurized rifle such as the Barret, with match-grade ammo and a high-end scope, in the hands of a trained professional, could hit a man-sized target center-mass with little or no difficulty at a mile.

“Reach out, reach out and touch someone…”
Desert Eagle too much for you? Have you tried the .40 S&W Baby Eagle?
I shot one at a range, and fell in love with it so I’m now the proud owner of one
It’s a sharpshooter for me, producing tons of bullseye hits, whereas, with a Ruger P89, I can’t shoot worth beans!
FWIW, I think it’s because the Ruger is part Poly, with a metal slide, and the Baby Eagle is all steel…

It seems not everyone read the fine print in the S & W agreement, least of all Smith & Wesson:
Smith & Wesson, government now disagree on settlement

“Always read the fine print”
Look what has happened in Austrailia. If guns were banned completely the bad guy is still going to find a way to get them. Banning guns could not only create a grey market for guns, but it may also aid in putting innocent people into a defenseless and/or deadly situation. When the government banned guns in Austrailia all gun owners had to turn their weapons over to authorities to be destroyed. Guns aren’t cheap!! Some guns serve as a personal investment, others are family heirlooms or a relic of our nations history. The saying; “Computers don’t make mistakes, people do”, has some relevance to this issue. Guns don’t kill people, people do. Make regulations about gun education and ban the individuals that kill people, don’t ban the gun.
Gun control should have nothing to do with a citizens access to firearms. Gun control should have something to do with how well a responsible gun owner can hit their target.
