I have no daily need to carry a firearm. But, I believe in strength in numbers, and I wanted to see just how hard it was.
Given that, I went down to my county probate court (Georgia) last week, paid $44, got fingerprinted, and waited for the letter to arrive after 2 - 4 weeks (background check included).
Well, nigh on one week and a day, I got that letter today. And I am now licensed to carry a pistol or revolver concealed in public.
I’m sure this’ll spin up a debate, but [Soapbox] I firmly believe everyone ought to apply for a license. Why? Simply to keep the machinery of the republic moving in pursuit of citizens’ rights. We’re granted the right to own and bear arms, and we ought to continue to exercise that right before it grows obsolete (like the 3rd Amendment). So long as an active, interested, and aware public keeps peacefully exercising their perrogatives, they won’t be lost to the future. [/Soapbox]
But anyway, I can carry. I honestly don’t need to on a regular basis, but I at least can add my name to the responsible ones who may choose to.

My girlfriend says I’ll take my foot off first. I doubt it–I’ll just load bird/snake shot.
Congratulations! One word - “holsters” It seems I spent almost as much getting a holster I like as I did on my carry piece.
Dillon 5JR (but I swear they changed the name) for the 1991A1 along with their double thick leather belt, in case you’re interested.
Actually, I ‘accidentally’ gave my father my preferred carry gun, a Sig Sauer 232, but I’ve got a Charles Daly DDA .40SW that I need to find a fitting leather holster for. I haven’t looked at Galco lately, but they ought to have something. . .

Yeah, “Here Pop! Have my favorite small-frame pistol!” :smack: Don’t ask. . .
I’m thinking about it, but it costs more ($140) along with requiring a class (which, I believe, is about $100), plus fingerprinting ($10) and passport photos (already have). The range I use offers the class, and the day I picked up my Glock, the man asked me if I was going to go for the license. Since my Glock (G17) is a duty-sized weapon that’s a bit large to conceal, especially on me, I said not at the moment. But my husband has a G27, and it’s not too bad.
(Believe it or not, Texas is not the most lenient state to offer concealed carry, but we do grant concealed carry to a lot of other states’ licensed owners.)
My dad has his CCW permit and he has a stainless Sig 230, the model that the 232 replaced. It’s one of his favorite “little” guns, but he never actually carries them except when travelling (he has quite a collection of pistols, especially in the .32/.380/9mm range).
indiana also has a fairly lenient concealed carry permit - provided there no felonies lurking in your background check that will turn up. it took less than two weeks for me to obtain mine.
I hadn’t clicked on the link before I made my other post, but dad has a little Kel Tec .32 (and I think a .380, also…he has 2 of them) in “pancake” holsters that fit in the front pocket of khakis without being noticed.
Of course there is! While illegally searching your house for guns, it’s protection from finding any soldiers in your closet during peacetime.
But then again with the War on Terrorism, the War on Drugs, the War on Poverty, the War on Homelessness, the War on Illiteracy, the War on Crime, the War on Obesity . . . I don’t think we’re in any danger of ever being at peace any time soon.

Oh, and my favorite: the War on Global Warming. Quick, someone get me a margarita and some sunglasses!
I’ve been meaning to get a CCW for years, but for the last couple of years I’ve lived in a county where the odds of one being issued to a John Q Public who isn’t a celebrity, elected official, or a cop are pretty low.
