Gun safety irony of the day.

Look at the picture heading this article.

Appears to be a picture of an idiot at a gun show.

Now look a little more closely. See it? It’s actually a combination of two things.

First, dipshit has his finger on the trigger. On a non-safety point, I could comment that he also has way too much of his finger inside the trigger guard.

Now…I know it’s hard to read, but look at the slogan on the back of his hat.

SAFETY IS NO ACCIDENT

I agree having a finger on the trigger when not intending to shoot is wrong.

Looks to me like the bolt is either locked back or maybe even removed. I could be mistaken. I’m not sure exactly what type of gun he’s holding. The gun shows here all require a zip tie through the action or removal of the bolt to prevent chambering a round.

Taking a second look, the charging handle does seem to be in place. Still looks like an empty hole where the bolt goes. Sometimes the people at the table where you check in your guns will zip tie the trigger all the way back (after verifying the gun is clear of course!) rendering the gun inoperable.
All this assuming the picture was taken at a gun show which seems obvious to me.

Thought this was the pit…

While he may very well be an idiot, there’s always the chance he asked the seller, “May I dry fire it?” If the seller gave permission, I suppose it would be O.K. to dry fire it as long as BOTH parties verified the chamber was empty and he pointed the muzzle in a safe direction.

But it’s more likely that he simply doesn’t follow Jeff Cooper’s Four Safety Rules.

Let me try this again for MPSIMS:

There are over a dozens of good reasons why a person purchasing a firearm, or trigger kit, or BAD Lever, or any number of accessories would be pulling the trigger in the store. Just like trying on pants, or sitting in a car before you buy it. This guy could be getting a feel for the trigger pull, or the reset, or who knows what else. But you cannot tell from a simple picture–at least not this one–that this guy is an idiot or in any way irresponsible. Part of buying a firearm is pulling the trigger. That’s not uncommon at all.

Placing ones finger all the way through so that it rests naturally on the trigger is the preferred method. Trying to use the tip of the finger to pull the trigger on a rifle like that is a poor technique.
ETA: The important thing is that the shooter doesn’t place his joint on the trigger, but instead use the meaty portion of the digit. Doesn’t have to be the first digit, and certainly shouldn’t be the tip of the first digit. Center of the second digit works best for most people which is where it looks like his finger is. I can’t be sure on this screen.
