Guns across State lines?

I have a quick question, does anyone know any gun regulation state sites. I am helping a friend drive from AZ to New England. He bought a revolver in AZ. And AZ is very lax with regulations. But because we live in New England…I am wondering if just having it in the car in NE is legal. Which states have concealed weapons laws. When we drive back I do not want to have to put it in the trunk, then take it out then put it back in the trunk etc…etc… Is this even a legitimate problem, am I over-reacting?

This should have most or all of what you need:

Then you’d best leave it locked in the trunk. In many states it is illegal, concealed carry or not, to transport a firearm in the passenger compartment, even in the unloaded state.

Oklahoma:
Except as otherwise provided by law, it shall be unlawful to transport a loaded pistol, rifle or shotgun in a land borne motor vehicle over a public road. However, any person, except a felon: may transport a rifle or shotgun within the interior of the vehicle provided it is not clip, magazine or chamber loaded; and may transport a rifle or shotgun which is clip or magazine loaded and not chamber loaded when transported in an exterior locked compartment of the vehicle or trunk of the vehicle.

Illinois:
It is unlawful to carry or possess any firearm in any vehicle or concealed on or about the person, except on one’s land or in one’s abode or fixed place of business. It is unlawful to carry or possess any firearm on or about one’s person upon any public street, alley, or other public lands within the corporate limits of a city, village, or incorporated town, except when an invitee thereon or therein, for the purpose of the display of firearms or the lawful commerce in firearms, or except when on one’s land or in one’s abode or fixed place of business.

Exceptions are persons using their firearms on established target ranges; licensed hunters, trappers, or fishermen while engaged in their licensed activity; transportation of firearms that are broken down in a non-functioning state or are not immediately accessible (e.g., in the trunk of a car); and transportation, carrying, or possession of a firearm which is unloaded and enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container, by the possessor of a valid FOID. Under the Wildlife Code, it is unlawful to have or carry any firearm in or on any vehicle or conveyance unless unloaded and enclosed in a case.

New York:
A non-resident citizen of the U.S.A. may possess a rifle or shotgun in New York, as long as it is unloaded while being transported.

No person may carry, possess or transport a handgun in or through the state unless he has a valid New York license. (A provision of federal law provides a defense to state or local laws which would prohibit the passage of persons with firearms in interstate travel. If a person is traveling from any place where he may lawfully possess and transport a firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and transport such firearm and the firearm is unloaded and in the trunk. In vehicles without a trunk, the unloaded firearm shall be in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. Necessary stops, e.g., gasoline and rest, seem permissible.)

Michigan:
In order to transport or possess rifles and shotguns in a motor vehicle, Michigan law requires that they be unloaded and be one or more of the following: broken down, enclosed in a case, carried in the trunk of the vehicle, or inaccessible from the interior of the vehicle.

My advice? Carry no ammo (or lock your ammo in its own box), break the thing down if practible, put it in a lockbox. And leave the lockbox in the trunk.
