Guns in Canada (Trailer Park Boys)

This is the funniest thing I’ve read all day.

I’m from Toronto and the only guns I’ve ever seen are on policemen. But, I know for a fact that many people carry guns for hunting.

I’m ashamed to admit that I didn’t know Trailer Park Boys was Canadian…

I’ve seen through the end of season 2. So far, the season finale episodes tend to pull out the heavy guns, with Bubbles always wielding them. Which I guess makes sense, because other then a slight vision problem, he seems somewhat more stable/intelligent then anyone else other then Julian.

We own two guns - a .22 rifle and a 9mm handgun. My family has owned guns for as long as I remember. My grandfather had a whole rack of guns, including a .303 Lee Enfield military rifle, a 12 ga shotgun, a .410 shotgun, a .308 Remington hunting rifle, and a whole bunch of .22’s.

I got my first .22 rifle when I was 14 years old. Used it for plinking on the farm. When I was 12 I got a .177 caliber pellet gun.

Canada has a LOT of guns - How Many Guns in Canada?

Canadians own roughly half to a third as many guns as do Americans. However, the percentage of handguns is much lower. Handguns make up only 5-6% of all the privately owned guns in Canada. I couldn’t find the number for the U.S., but I’m guessing it’s a lot higher.

I should have added per capita.

Not quite true. I live in Manhattan, and know quite a few people with handguns. Most of them were acquired out of state, but they still own them.

Trupa, how much does the gun you’re getting cost?

( I don’t know if it’s rude to ask someone how much their gun costs. I hope not. I just want to know how much guns cost.)

Grew up in rural Saskatchewan. I can’t think of any neighbours that didn’t have one or more firearms. Typically any farm has at least one shotgun, one high-powered rifle, and one .22. Dad had (has) a 12ga shotgun, a 7mm rifle (WWII surplus of some sort, I believe), a .222 Remington (nice gopher gun, that one), and a couple .22s. This is pretty typical, though it’d be more common to find .308s and .30-06s rather than the 7mm.

It doesn’t seem that way in later episodes. In fact, in one episode, Ricky finds a gun he forgot he even owned.

It only gets better.

I thought it was more a matter of finding a gun that was missing “I lost this three years ago”.

And he finds it in a kitchen drawer.

And then promptly gets shot in the ass by his 9-year old daughter. What a great show

Well, it’s a bit like asking how much your car cost. It depends on whether you’re getting a compact or a large SUV, and whether you’re getting a Kia, or a Lexus. I’ll talk in ballpark terms.

My particular selection, (Kimber Stainless version of the 1911 .45 ) which I anticipate keeping / using for the rest of my life, goes for around $1k CDN / $800 US. In car terms, I would compare it to an entry-level Mercedes, or Harley for motorcycles. Not too many bells or whistles, but a lot of attention paid to manufacturing quality, tolerances, & finish.

The same design by a chinese manufacturer in blued steel can be had in Canada for about $700 CDN.

A Glock in .40 or .45 can be had for about $700-$800 CDN.

A custom-made 1911, or high-end Kimber 1911, can easily reach $4 - 5 K CDN. This would be the equivalent of high-end Benz, Rolls-Royce or Ferarri.

Since hand-guns wear-out very slowly, there’s a good market for used guns as well.

In terms of sports equipment costs, I would compare this to skiing, but place cheaper than scuba or skydiving.

Hope this answers your question.

My mistake. I think the point still stands, though. Something valuable and unusual isn’t the sort of thing you lose in your own kitchen for three years. On the other hand, this is Ricky we’re talking about, so I could be wrong.

Poor old Ricky. As Bubbles once said: “Ricky’s brain doesn’t work like others. He can only handle one idea at a time. Throw two or three at him and he’ll f***ing trainwreck.”

They sometimes film the show here in Halifax, but I think most of it is done across the harbour in Dartmouth. At least that’s where those three red and white smokestacks you always see are located.

Good point. The fact that it’s ricky explains a lot, considering the very first thing he does when finding the gun is to point it at the ceiling and pull the trigger to see if it’s still loaded(It was).

“These brownies taste funny!”

Yeah, that’s a Canadian thing. You guys don’t do that?
