I just totally went into the intro for Rock of Ages. 51.
43 years old here.
As soon as I read the German line, I was reminded of the Def Leppard song. I hate that song.
Well, you know it’s kinda hard, just to get along today.
I’ve heard both of those songs, but the phrase is unfamiliar to me. I’m not very good with lyrics in general, though.
Def Leppard. Actually, my favorite song by them. While I prefer The Offspring to DL, I can’t stand PFFAWG.
I don’t know any song that uses that phrase, so the first that came to my mind was “John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt”.
I have no idea. I’m well familiar with both songs, altho I haven’t heard either one in I don’t know when. And I recognize the phrase, tho damned if I can remember where I heard it. Reason suggests it must’ve been those songs, obviously. Just don’t remember. Maybe it helps that I didn’t know there were G’s in that phrase?
52, Def Leppard
And I’ve never ever heard of John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt. No kids. So I did a Google search. And if that is what you are forced to listen to with kids, Im fine with missing out on that.
Weren’t you ever a kid?
I don’t get this. I know JJJS, but what relation does it have to the opening line of Def Leppard or Offspring?
I know both songs, but at 43 I grew up with Def Leppard. I’m a fan of both groups but it doesn’t really stand out in the Offspring song like it does of Def Leppard. Plus Pyromania is one of my favorite albums.
Pretty Fly, although even at the time it came out, I knew it wasn’t the first use.
Def Leppard, 46.
Who the heck are “The Offspring”? And, get off my lawn!
I know, it’s time to retire that overused phrase. Sorry, I couldn’t think of a better way to express “I’m old and I don’t care!”.
Well, let me think. Yes, I believe I was. Never heard the JJJS song.
43, Pretty Fly, but specifically in the context of recognizing it as the same as the Def Leppard song. So, both at the same time I guess?
Home schooled?
A band who’ve been around since you were 14, in other words, in the prime age range to know of them, although the song in question came out more than a decade after their debut.
I’m just as confused. And apparently kids don’t learn about John Jacob anymore—I just asked my 17 and 12 year olds the other day if they knew that song, and they had never heard of it.
Nope. Public school in Virginia.
Def Leppard. 54.
I know The Offspring, but not that song. I don’t think so anyway.
Def Leppard. While I’ve heard of “Pretty Fly for a White Guy” I have no idea what it sounds like. I’m 47.
