John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt - Do you know this song?

This came up in another thread. It’s a kids song, just repeating a few lines over and over again as far as I know. I think every kid in the 60s knew this from school or camp or field trips on the bus, at least for me growing up in the Midlantic region. Pretty sure my kids knew it growing up in the 80s and 90s too. Apparently it’s not as universal as I thought, so have you heard this song? When were you a kid and where did you live then?

Bonus points if your name is John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.

The lyrics (the only ones I know about):

John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt,
His name is my name too.
Whenever we go out,
The people always shout,
There goes John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.

Yes, I know that song. I must say, however, I’m not much of a fan of it.

Yes, I know it and it was famous enough that it was on at least 3 or 4 VHS tapes for kids I had growing up. I was a kid in the 90s and into the 00s and I lived in MN.

Yup. I heard that song when I was growing up.

You already know my answer, from the other thread. Nope.

Also grew up in the 60s in the Mid Atlantic area.

And this thread is just begging for a poll.

I’ve heard it on TV shows but I’ve never sung it myself and I don’t remember my friends, classmates, or siblings singing it. I grew up in upstate New York in the 1970s.

I know it, I knew it growing up in the 70s - 80s. It’s been on VHS tapes, on cassettes, but most importantly it was on Fred and Barney Meet the Schmoo.

Hi there John! My name is Yon Yonson!

Did you spend time at Yale?

As noted in the other thread, I liked the “adult”* version.
*no not THAT kind of adult. Played on pop radio stations, rather than on kids TV or CDs.

Do I know this song? (“Can I sing this song?”) No.

Do I know this song? (“Have I ever heard, or heard of, this song?”) Yes.

Right across the river from me which is what surprises me.

Yes, I remember it as a kid.

I did not know it as a kid, but our best friends have a 9 year old and his mother sang it to him all the time - I think it was on a video she had.

I know the song from summer camp as a kid. We sang the second line as "That’s my name, too."

This was a summer camp staple in Ohio in the eighties and early nineties. It still pops in my head from time to time.

Sure. I didn’t know it until maybe 15 years or so ago when my kids were little. It was on a VHS tape or something with other goofy kids stuff.

I’ve heard it in two places. It was in an ad for a record of a bunch of kid’s songs–the only other one of which I remember is “I am a pretty little Dutch girl/As pretty as pretty can be…” The other place was on an episode of Happy Days. Howard was singing it with a bunch of the teenagers, and Marion felt left out.

I remember they also sang it in Arnold’s when Mork from Ork froze everyone.

That’s how I was taught the song, but I think that’s a mutant offshoot, because most people have it the other way.

Also, I myself frequently rendered the name “Jinglebooty Smith” and I’m pretty sure that was only me doing that.
