OK, this happened sometime in the early to mid 2000’s. I’m sure at least one person will know who I’m talking about. I’m going strictly off of memory, but I’m positive that I have the details right.
Here’s what I remember.
-
This person accidentally gets a book containing surveillance on him. I think the nature was something like he was supporting or had ties to terrorists.
-
The CIA or Homeland Security demands the book back.
-
He tries to challenge the surveillance in court using the book as evidence. The government lawyers argue that if the trial goes through state secrets will be exposed.
-
The judge agrees, says for the sake of national security that the book doesn’t exist, and orders the non-existent book returned to the government.
-
He still challenges the surveillance, and finally gets a trial. Although the book is inadmissible he can testify on what he remembers reading in the book.
After this I don’t remember seeing update on how the trial went so I’d like his name so I can look it up. Thank you.
