Guy plays Boston on organ

Behold.
(5) Joe Bowen plays Foreplay by Boston on the Lowrey Organ - YouTube

Great cut. The pedal work is amazing.

Is the Youtube algorithm recommending this to everyone or something? Anyhow, this is a fantastic take. The pedal work is well within the reach of any good church organist. I feel like an asshole for saying it, but nothing about the footwork impresses me. I can’t do it myself, but I wasn’t trained to do it. I’ve seen a number of church organists do much more difficult work with Bach pieces where you have a melody running through the right hand, a countermelody in the left, and something else entirely on the feet.

THAT SAID, this is an exquisite performance. It captures the feel and phrasing of the song. I’m not sure I could ask for a better performance. Wonderful work.

Ever since I was a kid and discovered Lee Michaels* on his Hammond B3, I’ve loved organists. And our church music director is one of the best.

Just to continue this hijack, when our church started services online, an older guy volunteered to run the video. He was an artist! One thing he did was to have a couple of cameras on the organ AND ONE ON THE ORGANIST’S FEET. So. Cool.

Fair enough. I’ll amend my comment to say, “The few times I’ve tried pedals have been a disaster and I’m always amazed to see someone do it well.”

I guess I’m out of date on organ technology. That looks like a cross between a steampunk spaceship and the space shuttle.

Also, I enjoyed the playing. I love reinterpretations. Like Over The Rainbow on a theremin, that sort of thing.
