GuyNblueJeans, please lay off the fucking emoticons

Only attractive women. Ugly women who even attempt to have sex with teenagers should be taken out and “bullwhipped”.

I have to use emoticons. Nobody ever gets my extremely dry humour without them. Or else I’m just plain mean. You’ll never know, will you? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! {cough}

I use the occasional emoticon – I admit it!

But I don’t read GiBJ’s emoticon-overloaded posts, not because I think the emoticons are annoying, but because they make the post hard to read. It doesn’t scan correctly; instead of moving your eye smoothly across the text, you (well, I) get caught up short at every emoticon. So I don’t read those posts. I’m sure that’s no great loss in the larger scheme of things, but it might be worth knowing that not only do the emoticons not make your post more comprehensible, they actually make them less comprehensible.

I loves me some copping out on original thought!

Overuse of ASCII art is what got Ilsa Lund a temporary ban.

OK, I have to ask this question now. Why is it that people on the far right load up their posts with a bunch of extraneous bullshit? It used to be ALL CAPS writing and now it seems to be the use of a dozen emoticons per post. A board devoted to my Alma Mater’s sports teams has a political board, and any post with more than one emoticon is guaranteed to have a screed concerning Nancy Pelosi or Hillary Clinton.

I’ve been seriously wondering if GNBJ is someone I am aware of through other places. He certainly seems to bear a strong resemblance.

That person posts tons of meaningless crap about his life multiple times a day, in places that have nothing to do with 99% of what he spews. He makes no effort to read 90% of what it said to him and grossly distorts what he does read; much like in the Renter thread here where most of the posters ream GNBJ a good one and he comes back with something about all the love and support we’ve given him, without any hint of sarcasm.

That person has been banned from at least one board that I previously belonged to, for spamming crap and stalking female posters.

I hope to God/Cthulhu/The Invisible Pink Unicorn that it’s not the same person, but it’s one of those “Can there really be two people like this?” moments.

If it is the same person, hang on for some really wild shit before he’s banned.

Why is it people on the far left always engage in gross generalizations? It seems like whenever a discussion is going on and a person out of nowhere just wrenches it over to politics – that person will be a leftie. I wonder why that is.

Unless I’m missing it, the quoted thread contains only one emoticon, and it isn’t GuyNblueJeans’.

Just sayin’.

I don’t see him using many smilies in that thread, and I guess none of his other threads/posts have caught my attention so he’s not really on my “smilie abuse radar”.

I don’t really like using them, but seems like if I don’t then somebody misinterprets my post and I have to go back and explain why I didn’t use a smilie. Lose-lose.

Damn, and now McNew beats me to the point. I’d use a “slaphead” smilie, but don’t want to get any hackles up.

That would make it a non-emoticon, right? Or maybe a logicon?

No way, man. If you’ve been on any message board other than the SDMB, you’ll notice that pretty much every other person on the Internet is just like that. There are nice gems out there like SDMB but they’re few and far between.

Personally, I don’t think GiBJ over-uses those smileys in every post. I’ve only noticed that one, actually. His problems are much, much bigger than that.

I know what you’re saying, but if you knew of the individual who I’m referencing, you’d be running screaming in terror at the possibility of him being on SDMB.

Missed that. Noted, with apologies.

Thanks for your useless contribution. I’d post links to my eminently supportable assertion if it weren’t against the rules.

I’d really like to know where the Ted Koppel stuff comes from. A guy on another board started posting the same kind of stuff (adorned with al caps and smileys) about a month ago. In his case it interspersed with rants about how the Mexicans were going to retake the Southwest.

No, no – thank you for your useless contribution. No subject too off-topic that it can’t be made about politics, right?

To be honest, Lynn was feeling particularly testy at the time.

I’m addicted to the :stuck_out_tongue: emoticon. In instant messaging I almost use it as much as I should use periods.

I hate myself :frowning:

:stuck_out_tongue:

Since we’re doing this over emoticons, let me add some of Guy’s most recent work that had me overusing the buggers myself:

   :frowning:     :frowning:     :frowning:     :frowning:     :frowning:     :frowning:
