I’m sitting here watching “Good Fellas” on–can you believe it?–Lifetime Channel for Women. I don’t know why it’s on Lifetime, but I must say it’s better than their usual fare.
Are guys embarrassed when they watch a movie or show on Lifetime? Sometimes I’m embarrassed, and I’m a woman. Are there shows on Lifetime that appeal to men? Spike TV shows stuff like “Star Trek: Next Generation” and “Blind Date” which appeal to men and women, but Lifetime seems to target a more specific audience. I’m just curious if this is the case.
I have watched more lifetime then should be legally allowed. When my mom was sick and bed ridden, she would watch a lot of TV, most of it was lifetime and I would watch with her. Has anyone actually sat through a whole lifetime orginal movie? I have seen dozens and they all are about babies getting killed, kidnapped, abused, etc. by evil men (such as a boyfriend, husband, exhusband, father, etc.). I think lifetime is just trying to turn women into man-hating lesbians. Maybe it is just me…
Lifetime is one of the best sources of mainstream bondage scenes on cable TV. Furthermore, they often do it better than straight up adventure fare. Frex, their women in prison movies often dwell on cuffing and shackling scenes to exploit the pathos of the character being imprisoned.
BTW, the 1-800-Missing series has been REAL good for bondage, and it’s also a very good series dramatically. I think because they’re a women’s channel they deal with damsel in distress scenes a little more easily than other channels.
Spike also shows “Trash to Cash, with John DiResta” which appeals to us cheapskates from all sexes and walks of life.
I have to say, as a woman, that even I don’t usually watch Lifetime because most of the stuff on there doesn’t appeal to me. They used to have stuff I watched all the time, but lately - meh. I’m with Otto though, the idea or “branding” of a channel doesn’t really appeal to me*, as I go on a show to show (or movie by movie) basis.
(*Not yet, anyway. When I’m king of the world watch for my “All MST3K, George Clooney and Cary Grant” channel though.)
Every time I go over my parent’s house they are ensconced in some horrid Lifetime drama. My mom says she wants to change the channel, but my dad won’t let her!!
Lifetime is a guilty pleasure of mine. Sure, a lot of their movies are full of recycled plotlines and cheesy acting, but sometimes when I’m working on a paper or some other project, I have it on in the background because it’s something that’s mildly entertaining yet not too distracting. It’s like the TV equivalent of a trashy yet fun novel.
I’m embarassed but I like Mad About You. I used to use the excuse that I think Helen Hunt is hot but I just like the show. So I watch it on Lifetime.
My mother also keeps it running on her TV 24/7 so whenever I’m visiting her I ususally see stuff on it. I just walk into the room and say “what are men doing bad now?” She usually shuts it off pretty quickly.
Occasionally I do find myself trying to watch something on Lifetime or WE, but the incessant feminine hygiene ads cause me to channel surf away so consistantly that I’ve usually bailed on whatever show by the second break.
