Guys With UTI's

Peeing before and after flushes out bad stuff that could get pushed up higher with the friction.

Dunno. I got one once after surgery, presumably because of the catheters (they had to re-insert a catheter while I was awake because I couldn’t pee).

I don’t recall my pee stinking. I got terrible itching in the urethra after taking a leak. It would go away but come back after sex. I lived wtih it for probably 7+ days then saw a doctor. he gave me a low-level antibiotic and I never had another problem again.

More frequent pee can be a symptom of diabetes, too, can’t it? I don’t know about smelly pee. Not to scare you, but are you problematically overweight?

I’m very susceptible to the boogery problem, too. I’ll second the cranberry pills suggestion. Gives you more cranberry power than you could drink, and no sugar. I now take 3 right afterwards, and 2 or 3 at intervals of several hours for 24 hours. Because of this, I get UTI’s once every couple of years instead of monthly (and usually because I got careless), which is what happened at first.

There is a brand of cranberry juice, Knudson’s [might be knudsens, i just chucked out the bottle and dont want to bin dive for it] Pure juice, straight from the berry, no sugar, no preservatives, nothing but the honest juice. It is so straight it has to be dilluted 1:6 or 8 with water over ice to be drinkable, and I sweeten it with splenda…wonderful stuff. Can be used to make cranberry sugarfree jello, in place of water for cranberry relish/sauce for thanksgiving, added to anythig you want a real intense souring to like a great marinade/glaze for hams…

It doesn’t always hurt, and even when it does it isn’t (for me at least) a sharp spiky pain, more of a dull ache. Sometimes not even that.

Symptoms do vary from person to person and from incident to incident. Uristat is nice stuff

(you can end up with permanently orange undies though).

I must say it’s disconcerting to see my name as thread starter on a thread so old I didn’t recognize the title for several beats!

For those of you hanging in suspense about the state of my urethra – I went to the doc this AM.

Diagnosis: Urethritis. Gave me a bottle of Doxycycline and said he was sure it that would clear it up. Apparently this thing often comes as a free side dish when you order up some gonorrhea or chlamydia. I know I don’t have either of those two fun friends. I just read that “Urethritis may also develop because of a chemical irritation (such as spermacide in condoms or contraceptive jelly, cream, or foam)” [sup]source[/sup] – so that’s the most likely culprit.
Guess it’s antibiotcs for a week and then back to my normal brand of raincoats.
Thanks for the replies.

I would like to thank you all for sharing your experiences, it has helped me a lot to overcome my UTI issue.

I am a 42 year male who had a UTI for the first time 4 years ago. As it happened for the first time I could not act on first signs therefore it got worse and the doctors prescribed ‘guess’ antibiotics which did not clear the infection therefore I took 3 one week each courses before the infection (E.coli) cleared up. As it took more than a month to clear up me and my wife were nervous therefore I ended up at the urologist who suggested inserting a camera from my urethra to examine any plumbing issues inside. It was a very painful and expensive process. The doctor found no issues inside but an irritated bladder which he burnt and took a biopsy of the cells to rule out cancer. I am not sure why he burnt it and did not leave it for the body’s natural healing process to fix. It will be great if anyone reading this can answer this question for me.

In this case I do not suggest only trying home remedies as they will help your situation slightly but they will NOT cure it. Every day that passes by with the bacteria multiplying in your urinary tract it is not good for your kidneys and bladder therefore you must act very fast.

The antibiotic medicine that eventually worked for me is Norfloxacin 400 mg. If you are not able to obtain it the next best I recommend is Trimethoprim. Please avoid taking broad spectrum antibiotics like Amoxicillin as they will NOT work in 70% cases.

HOW TO HEAL / SOOTHE BRUISED / IRRITATED URINARY BLADDER AFTER URINE INFECTION IS GONE

One worst side effect of having a UTI is that internally the wall of the urinary bladder gets bruised because of the infection which heals very slowly. For weeks after the infection is gone one feels uncomfortable because the bruised wall of the urinary bladder has not healed. I felt the same therefore did a lot of research on it but could not find much help except the fact that one should completely avoid coffee, acidic food/juices and spices for 3 months. I took this issue very seriously and discussed it as much as I could and tried few things to help soothe the urinary bladder. The two things that did magic for me were 1. Drinking one glass of plain cold milk (straight out of the fridge – do not add any flavour to it) 30 minutes after breakfast and dinner. 2. One coconut water (cold out of the fridge – straight from the nut, not in the tetra pack). Do this for 10 days and see the difference.

After careful consideration I have made the following changes in my life style to avoid this stressful issue from happening again:

  • Bacteria can grow and divide every 20 minutes turning one bacterial cell into 16 million in just 8 hours. Therefore the moment you suspect that you may have a UTI take at least 2 doses of a good antibiotic straight away. That kills it there and then. The 8-16 hour delay in the time one suspects the issue and gets the prescription from the doctor makes the problem much worse. If you have had the issue once I recommend to keep stock of Norfloxacin 400 mg or Trimethoprim 300 mg. Ideally you should complete the enter antibiotic course.
  • Clean your urethra every morning in shower with a mild soap or equivalent.
  • Increase water intake to 2+ litres per day.
  • During this period open your pants and urinate ( as opposed to lowering your zip) so that the last drop of urine can exit in the toilet leaving your underwear dry and non-infected.
  • Wash your hands with soap for at least 10 seconds for every (wee or Poo) visit to the washroom.
  • Wash hands before masturbation as dirty hands can easily infect urethra.
  • Both partners must wash hands before having sex and pee within 15 minutes after sex.
  • Do not sit on the toilet in a manner that your urethra is touching the front part of the toilet bowl as it has a lot of harmful bacteria.
  • Consume yogurt, Yakult (pro biotic), coconut water and plain cold milk to soothe gut and urinary bladder.
  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, spices, sodas, citrusy and fried food for 2-3 months as they irritate urinary bladder. Come on a bland diet.
-Dehydration can cause UTI therefore if you ever have diarrhoea please increase water intake and make sure to consume hydrolyte.

I really hope this post helps. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will endeavour to assist.

I feel for you man, I went through something I’m still not sure what exactly happened, but I had all the symptoms of a uti in the sense of a burning but it wasn’t always there, frequent urination, feeling the need to void even after I just went, but in other ways it didn’t meet the symptoms I didn’t have signs of infection or blood in my urine, there was no stench, no discharge. I went through 3 different antibiotics and it would get better and then come back after the course was over, still not sure if that was placebo effect or what.

I ended up seeing a urologist who checked my prostate and he said it was inflamed a little but really downplayed its severity and then started me on a 4th antibiotic for a longer time period of a month or two. Same thing happened it went away and then came back, It really was a kind of living hell, and people joke about it, but its like torture.

I was taking ibuprofen every day for two years, like 800mg for my tmj and I read some things about it that made me wonder if it was in some way indirectly causing my issue, I stopped taking it cold turkey, and went through a period of several days where my whole body hurt, I think taking it for so long and then suddenly stopping it caused this body ache. Anyway after I stopped it eventually it seemed to go away, still not sure if the ibuprofen had something to do with it or not but it did go away at the same time. I told my Urologist and he believed me but he said he couldn’t explain why it would cause that problem, but he also said he couldn’t deny it was possible either.

I still don’t know it caused it for sure but it hasn’t come back since I stopped taking it, I did notice that when I was really constipated, it seemed worse, maybe that constipation irritated my prostate and referred to my bladder, putting pressure on it or something.

Again…

If only John Coffey hadn’t ridden the lightning, he’d clear up all you guys’ UTIs in five minutes.

I’m starting to regret that Avatar script I installed for here…
