What were you up to fully a quarter century ago, Guy? Were you even out of the womb? In grade school? Would it be fair or accurate to say that “packaging a food-throwing, bad-spelling innumerate grade-schooler as some poster to the SDMB is precisely such a silly, underhanded exercise?” In a less-ridiculous comparison, 25 years ago I was pretty liberal. Should I now be criticized if I were to take a job at a neo-con think tank?

I don’t see the problem here. Of course Bush is going to introduce his guy in the most glowing possible light, but absent any evidence that there’s any outright falsehoods (as opposed to not quite sincere platitudes about “service” and whatnot), or that the guy is outright unqualified, why not let him?
You used a lot of words, when instead you could have just said, 'Oh, Br’er Brutus, I see that you were quoting a specific statement, and I will therefore assume that your own comment was in response to the aforementioned specific statement. Furthermore, I will not assume that your comment, made in response to another comment, is applicable to any and all comments in this thread."
Or something like that.
