Gypsies in the US?

Ain’t got much time, but yes.

The glib answer is that Irish Travellers only like to mix with Irish Travellers, Romanies like to mix with other Romanies; showmen (fair people) like to mix with other showmen and circus folk like to mix with other circus folk. About the only uniting feature that I can think of is that (generally speaking) all those groups dislike New Travellers to a degree.

There is also a fair bit of animosity between Irish Travellers and Romanies, most of which is due to competition for site spaces, IMO. That’s compounded by the fact that most Romanies like to be left alone (hence the desire to buy land to settle that is out of the way) and so there’s sometimes problems when Irish Travellers arrive on a site that has Romani occupants. In most cases I know of, the Romani folk have ended up leaving.

Another thing that bugs Romanies is being mistaken for other groups, or having other groups mistaken for them. An example of the latter would be that Toogoode case from the States a year or so back. I know of several American Roms who went fucking apeshit whenever a media source got lazy and just reported it as a Gypsy beating her kid rather than an Irish Traveller.

Is there anyone who doesn’t dislike the new age travellers?

Do you have these people in the US, or does it require a giro to fund the lifestyle/buy string for the dogs lead?

You’re never gonna get an answer from Americans when you phrase your questions like that

Fairy Nuff.

“do you have septic soapdodgers who live on the rock n roll and have mutts on strings, wear bloody great daisies, camoflage callards, dirty dickies and have somethibng terrible wrong with their barnets, and spend all their old king cole on bob hope”?

Is that better?

There was two fields joining each other one which the Irish Travellers payed for and one which was owned by the Council. They moved on to the Council field with their caravans and put up fenches and walls without permission that is why they were evicted. Most of the travellers have houses in Ireland,so don’t feel sorry for them. Also there was camp built for them in a village where i live which the Council spent millions on which they trashed within aweek of them settling. These people got no respect for anybody or any law they play the human rights act every time they can. They rip off the elderly they take anything thats not lock up and they got no fear of beating some one up because they move on and can’t be found.

In the context of the removal of local authority requirement to provide acocmmodation for Gypsies and Travellers in the UK, it seemed like a smart idea for Gypsies who want to continue their traditional lifestyle to buy their own land on which they could live. Sadly, it has proved impossible to get planning permission, and families have repeatedly been evicted by the councils from their own land (example from BBC), often resulting in complete destruction of their homes with no remedy. Since this attempt to comply with society’s requirements while maintaining their culture has been refused, the question needs to be repeated: “where are they supposed to go?”
