Habits we'd like to ditch...

Some personal habits I’d like to do without (Apart from significant obvious ones like eating too much)

Playing with my nose. I swear I am going to have a deformed nose some day, I really put some force into fondling that thing!

Using the word ‘God’ on impulse (“Oh God”, “For God’s sake” etc…). I am an atheist, so as far as I am concerned God is a fictional character. I feel embarrased every time I let it slip out because it might make people think I am a believer.
(In Britain, refefred to somewhere as “Post-Christian” a lot of habits remain, such as assigning “God-fathers”, even when the belief is not there. So that’s how Harry Potter can have a godfather, ok? It’s not a plot hole in the book, it’s a perfectly normal british tradition and a sign that the book is just set in britain that’s all)

I finally took care of the smoking after 20 years, so cross that one off.

That leaves biting my nails. I have done this since before I can remember and just can’t seem to stop. :frowning:

I pick at the skin on the sides of my thumbs. Like hangnails, only a lot worse.
I also pick at my lips.

I have made great strides in cutting back, but I still haven’t kicked these nasty habits.

Chewing Paper Towels And Napkins

Sighing. I do that a lot without thinking, and a few times, I realized in hindsight, it was just the absolute wrong time to do it.

I do that too. I also bite at them. I have to stop. Otherwise I’ll end up having to have them amputated, due to flesh-eating disease.

I do this too! Whenever I’m bored or nervous I start picking. My husband slaps my hands if he catches me doing this.

Nail biter here too. I really munch down on them sometimes. I saw someone doing this in public and thought it was disgusting. Then I realized I did it all the time.

I pick at the sides of my fingernails on my middle fingers and the surrounding skin. I always end up digging out the part of the fingernail that’s TRYING to grow back normally, hacking at it with whatever instrument is available until that part of the nail is removed and what’s left is jagged and it hurts :frowning:

I have no idea why I do this. I’ve done it since high school :frowning:

Nail biting. :frowning: I’ve been biting my nails ever since I could I remember and I’m 20 now. I don’t think my nails will ever grow normally after so many years of abuse.
