Hair Fare

Okay so what I want to know is if we all descended from apes (so says my Human Evol. professor) and the apes tend to be hairy all over, or not hairy in the chest or tummy area, why is it that in general human females = not hairy and human males = hairy.

Now I’m sure you’re all thinking “well I know so-and-so and he has no hair,” and “this chick I know, she is hairier than me and I’m a guy” but you KNOW what I mean.

My boyfriend is extremely hairy, on all parts (ears to toes) and if this is some sort of advantageous trait for peoples of a certain ancestoral region then why aren’t females of that certain region just AS hairy (not just hairier than other women of different regions.)

Basically, why can my boyfriend have long hair on his tummy and I can’t? I see the little peach fuzz hairs all over me but it’ll never match his apelike appearance.

Not that I envy this trait, mind you. I dilapidate as much as the next girl. But why should men be so fortunate/unfortunate to have this wild hair growth? When did testosterone decide it needed to make hair and estrogen decided it needed to not make hair? Haven’t those hormones been around…forever?

That only happens to girls when they get to be 30 or older.
Perhaps you mean depilate ?

As for why women have less hair, it’s probably because they are more highly evolved than men.
