Half Life 2 on LAN

So Im on a US Navy ship and when Im not busy defending democracy…ah…yeah…when Im free I like to participate in some LAN gaming. Well we want to install Half Life 2 on out office LAN but it seems to require internet access to accomplish this. Is there a way around this? Please?

Nope.

Half-Life 2 requires an internet connection to verify that you bought a real copy. It’s listed as a requirement on the box.

Right…we know this…so, how about a “way around” the requirement.

I think you just need to verify it once, then you can put it in offline mode and forgo the connection from then on. Some details are listed here.

If you’re slyly asking if there’s a wink-wink-nudge-nudge way around it I wouldn’t recommend it. That’s a good way to get spyware on your machine and get your CD Key stolen.

I think that the half-life installation only needs to be verified every couple of weeks or so. So you could connect to the internet on land and then take the P.C. onto your rubber dingy and get at least some time to play the game before you need to re-connect to the internet. As for a long-term workaround for the internet problem I am pretty certain there isn’t one.

So Half Life 2 is a multiplayer LAN capable game that cannot operate without internet access? Well that sucks. Thanks all.

Well, the reason for needing the internet is to verify thast you have a legit copy of the game. The original Half-Life was pirated a LOT, especialyl because of Counter-Strike. Fifty people wold all use one copy and just play together on a LAN. By making you register your CD key before playing at all, Valve (the Publisher of the game) can ensure that no one is using a pirated copy.

Granted, I’m sure there still are pirated copies, but less so than before.
