Yeah, that sucks, but I’m not surprised. Well, Max Payne 2 went gold yesterday, so we can play that for a while. The PC version of SW: KotOR should also be out soon.
Can some uber-techie explain to me how theft of 1/3 of the source code would result in a four-month delay? Sounds like a weak-ass excuse to me.
With easy access to the source code, cheating hacks will find it easier to create cheats for online play.
I don’t know if they really need the four months, or if that’s just the excuse they gave so they could continue to work on the game at a more leisurely pace, but it’s a very real reason for it.
Max Payne, Star Wars…that will have to hold us over until they release the game then. Keep in mind that the reason for stealing the source code was probably not to get free copies but to create cheats for the legions of asshats out there.
Well, there is always the chance that Vivendi has been smoking crack. I’ll reserve judgement on this news until I hear it from Valve, although Valve probably wanted Vivendi to make the announcement so some of the heat would be directed at Vivendi instead of Valve (why the hell is Vivendi even involved?).
Anyway, the point of my post was this: If you find yourself wondering just how the hell you are going to be able to make it all the way to April without HL2, take a look at this list I made. It makes me feel a LOT better. Hell, it’s gonna be tough to sample half of these games before April.

Hell, from the looks of this list April will be here in a blink of a gamers eye…anybody else feel the same way?
www.hardocp.com is reporting that their sources say that HL2 is still on schedule to be released before Christmas.
After all, if you strip the multiplayer feature and release it as a single-player-only version, the only issue that remains is nVIDIA’s fucked up implementation of the DirectX 9 API. The game was initially delayed apparently in order to correct that problem, so what the hell? Chalk the delay up to the haX0rz and let them take the fall for a November/December release.
Heck, even better, why not release the game with full functionality and use the script kiddies to identify the first round of exploits? Spend a week to write a script which makes sure that the gold version records their IP addresses, then cross-references against their colleges, student loan authorities, college applicants, and parents telephone numbers, and sends a helpful message that informs those potential parties of the possible DMCA offense and the potential ramifications of such an offense.
Of course, that would be an example of the DMCA actually working, so I doubt it’s possible.
By the way, I’m not really qualified to speculate on such issues, but we can all have our fantasies, can’t we?
