Half Life - Black Mesa

It already looks dated, compared to the games you can play now.

True, but not compared to the original. And Graphics aren’t everything.

They’re still dated as hell, including the control scheme (on the 360).

i believe it is a mod, not a new game or anything redone by valve.

Got delayed to next year.

They’re clearly awesome enough to take a cue from the original company and start operating on Valve Time. Whether that’s a good thing or not is up to the individual.

So, this is why I’m not playing HL2: Episode 3 yet?

grumble grumble…

Well, the team hasn’t run out of coke yet. Once they do, they’ll need to make more money. Then they’ll start thinking “Weren’t we supposed to be doing something the last few years? Making some sort of Episode 3 or something?”

Come on, Valve. Just a Sceenshot or something, you can make two zombies games but you can’t show ANY progress on episode 3?

“Valve” didn’t technically make Left 4 Dead. The game was originally in development at Turtle Rock Studios with Valve as the publisher. Valve was so impressed with their work that about a year before L4D’s release they bought Turtle Rock and integrated them into the Valve team.

So, this is weird. When I first attempted to play Half Life 2, I was deathly ill. I had to stay home from work for over two weeks, and I decided to try HL2 to stave off boredom between bouts of nausea and diarrhea. I never got past the stupid airboat levels.

I think the association became hardwired into my brain, because I am trying to finally play through it, and sure enough, the experience is making me feel sick. I can play through about 15 minutes or so, and I start feeling nauseated and have to stop.

It’s like a food aversion or something. How odd.

I’m hoping to get through the (entirely too long, annoying) canal level, and hopefully my brain will stop associating the game with being sick as a dog.

There has been complaints that Half-life 2 causes motion sickness. This is usually attributed to HL2’s horizontal field of view (FOV). HL2 is set to 75 degrees by default. Try changing the FOV to 90 degrees and see if that helps you.

To change the FOV type “sv_cheats 1;fov 90”[sup]*[/sup] into the console.

To get the console to show in the game, go to your My games folder in Steam, right click on the Half-life 2 icon and select properties. In the tab named General, click on Set launch options… and add the line “-console”[sup]*[/sup]. Now the console should show in the game.

Good thing Duke Nukem Forever came out in time to tide us over.

I’d heard that he quit Machinima and is just doing Freeman’s Mind on his own. Don’t know how accurate that is, though.

Yup, he quit Machinima.com because of various issues regarding the contracting and other stuff I can’t quite remember. He’s still working for them, but on a freelance basis rather than a full time position.

There’s a rather lengthy post explaining it on his site (accursedfarms.com).
