Maybe, they’ll help you.
So, how much of a mess is it going to be with so many people trying to download it at the same time?
Someone wanna clue me in here?
What exactly is Black Mesa Source? I’ve played Half-Life 1&2 so I’m assuming it’s a like a dev kit?
It’s a total (fan) remake of Half Life 1 in the source engine with graphics a little better than Half Life 2. I think they may also have made some minor design adjustments to areas, but mostly it’s just a total remake.
So what’s it gonna cost?
I’m listening to the soundtrack now…arrrgh, I wanna play!
Nothing, it’s a fan mod. Valve own the IP so they can’t legally charge for it. That said, you DO need a source game like TF2, HL2, etc installed to play it.
Well, I’m glad it isn’t made by Valve. Because if it were made by Valve my question would be, “WTF why aren’t you working on Episode 3?!?” Actually, that’s still my question. But this sounds pretty cool.
I had given up on it ever being released. Earlier this year I tried Half-Life and it sucked. Too many issues not counting the dated graphics.
I hope their servers don’t choke. I’ve really been looking forward to this. The only thing that I want more this year is the XCom remake.
Hoping there aren’t too many “Unforeseen Consequences”
Uhh…Huh hwhaaaa?
Of course you can’t count the dated graphics. It’s not a new game.
Curious what other ‘issues’ you had, since it’s one of the most well-received games ever.
I wasn’t clear. I wasn’t denigrating Half-Life, I know it’s one of the greatest games ever. I was talking about playing on my new hardware. I got it from steam. I meant to exclude the graphics as I knew they were what they were.
I got called away and didn’t get a chance to compose my post properly. I was talking about issues playing software designed for Win9x on Win7.
I’ve always like the idea of HL1 more than I liked the execution. Don’t get me wrong, the vast majority of it is fun, and I love the storytelling and atmosphere but even on easy I hate fighting Grunts. Not in the “it’s fun, but they’re so annoying haha” way, but in the way that I literally wish they didn’t put them in the game. When grunts start become more common, I’ve been known to start god-moding because of how tedious it can get.
Is that a joke? Ha ha..fat chance.
I heard about this a long while back and haven’t followed. I assumed it was dead. It is nice to see projects of this scope actually reach completion.
…and one of the best things about the sequel was no Icthyosaurs, although they at least made the model because of the teleportation scene. I shudder to think of their appearing in BM:S
Well one question answered; the site is down
Damn. Well, sure glad I didn’t take an hour or vacation to rush home and start the download…as it is I’ll be attempting to start in about6 hours. Hope they have it fixed by then.
Facebook makes it look like everything is going smoothly, now. Any updates?
Maybe you’ll find someone else to help you.
Maybe Black Mesa.

First link seemed to be a responsive site. Apparently it’s 3.1 GB. There is a torrent available too, that might be your best bet. You can get torrent clients that require no install, uTorrent used to be a good one.
