Half of the internet doesn't work!!

http://yahoo.com (can’t check my mail)
http://ezboard.com (can’t visit my ezboards)
http://google.com (can’t search)
http://altavista.com
http://msn.com
…and my university’s website, which I do visit frequently for email and things of that nature.

Is it just my computer? There’s nothing for me to do! :frowning: Is this a sign that I should go study for my networking final tomorrow? :frowning:

I’ve got no problem getting to any of your links, which makes me think that it might be your computer.

Have you tried deleting cookies and temporary internet files? How about using a different browser?

Everything’s working for me. Even the Dope is flying along. Go study.

Most likely your computer.

Run some spyware software like AdAware and SpyBot.

Clear your cache.

…and some other advice that’s sure to follow.

I posted this thread on my desktop computer and I’m now on my laptop. MSN.com works now but the others still don’t load for me.

It’s probably my internet connection. At least it’s not a computer problem. I guess I should go call customer service.

And thanks for replying.

Yep, I just called customer service and an automated message told me that there are currently some technical difficulties with my ISP.

Off to study. :frowning:

I’ve got the same problem. It made me realize how much I depend on Google.

The internet has just 10 webpages??

Are you on Sympatico, Anonymous Coward?

Well, including the SDMB it’d be double that. Duh.

Hey what ezboards do you visit? I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.

But mine are really geeky, and not that interesting… yeah. Maybe I shouldn’t.

These problems are usually:
-Difficulties with your ISP’s Domain Name Service - the sites are still there, but your ISP can’t properly tell your browser how to get to them.
-Difficulties with your ISP’s proxy -automated setups often include configuring your browser to use their proxy/cache (for God knows what reason) - removing the reference to their proxy in your internet settings hardly ever does any harm and often helps.
-Difficulties with your ISP’s connectivity - some friendly gas repairman may have dug through the cables carrying some of their bandwidth provision.

Yup, and some things are still choppy. I can’tplay one of my online games due to lag.

Hmm, I’m on Sympatico too, and I was experiencing problems this afternoon. I think our service goes through Toronto so I can see why that was down. It was strange though, being able to access some pages and not others!

Mostly musicians’ (ahem… singers’) forums. Nothing you folks would find too interesting.
My connection is working fine now.
