Half-track Pick-up Trucks

We were bored today. The subject of dune bashing in SUVs came up. Someone claimed that kits were available to convert a standard American full-sized, corn-fed pickup into a half-track for various commercial uses.

True?

A quick google confused by a large number false leads and bright shiny objects.

They are available for pickup trucks as well as farm tractors. I’ve seen ads for them appear on a compact tractor site I’m a member of. IIRC, some of the photos showed the units on all four wheels.

I’ll look around and see if I can find any photos.

Here’s a website: http://www.mattracks.com/ Show them on pickups etc.

And here’s one for ATVs: http://www.litefootatv.com/

Yeah. I’ve seen em. I think the brand name was Traxx.
Five whole minutes of Googling turned up:

Hard to google 'em up, I’ll grant you. Lots of “pick-up” sites out there.

I saw them demonstrated on some mud-ridin’ show. They seemed to do pretty well. The driver couldn’t really get them stuck. They have a fairly low speed limit (it was something like 40 mph) but it isn’t supposed to be very hard to convert them back and forth.

I googled “track conversion” and they popped up in the first two or three returns.

Thank you all. Obviously my Google-fu is weak this weekend.

(Did I double-post this? If so, please accept my double thanks.)
