Well, what are you guys up to?
We live in a small gated neighborhood. It’s out in the country and full of old folks, so there won’t be real trick-or-treating. However, we still do a small celebration. This year it will be on Sunday night. The neighbors have scraped up a small group of grandkids to participate, and they will be driven from house to house on a hay wagon. At the end we all get together for some kind of munchies.
I don’t know if we’re going to do much in the way of decorating, but I think I just found my costume:
Cow hat
$12! That’s a deal!
Halloween used to be my favorite. I’d do all kinda stuff. Never got any kids that came by. I’ve since given up and drink alone now.
I will drink at the same time as you, how’s that?
Yeah, you definitely need some kids around to feel the proper Halloween spirit…
There are a couple of neighborhoods in my area that have great yard displays and I enjoy walking around and taking pictures of what’s new. Yesterday I came across house with a lighting schedule and a helpful list of things to look for:
We did a kiddie trunk or treat with wife’s daughter & kids on the 21st.
Our building is having an adults party on the 26th. My wife’s daughter is having another kiddie event on the 27th. My wife will attend both of those. I’ll miss both of those because I’ll be vacationing in Costa Rica. I get back the 30th. We don’t have plans for the 31st. Yet. On the 1st we’ll do a swanky non-Halloween dinner out together.
We’re out on a county road in the middle of a cornfield. We don’t get trick-or-treaters. My duaghter and her husband are planning on going to a scary movie and dinner.
You were going to drink with any kids that came by?
My daughter asked me to help her take her kids around begging, so I will. We always kept our lights off at home, but our neighborhood is kinda remote and spread out, so no T-or-T around here anyway. It’s supposed to be quite chilly - here’s hoping the kids get bored pretty fast…
We are rural mountain. Only people that live on our road. Haven’t ever had a trick or treater in 30 years.
We are in the same situation. In fact, our road is private, no trespassing. Oddly, my gf still buys candy every year “just in case”.
But Honey, it was on saaaale!
Our neighborhood is still hanging on grimly to the trick or treat tradition, and we decorate and give out candy every year. We usually get our decorations up about a week ahead, and about half the houses on the block do some kind of decorating as well. We’re very close to an elementary and a middle school and a park where soccer leagues practice, so I suspect kids see the decorations ahead of time and know to come to us for candy.
In 2020, of course, no one was knocking on any doors, so we made little goody bags and set them out on a decorated table in the driveway with a sign. This worked so well that we’ve continued it, although we now put the table on the front porch. We can sit out there and greet the kids or go inside to watch TV if there aren’t any, and we don’t have to open the door over and over.
I’ve bought enough candy to fill 2, maybe 3 5-gallon buckets. We live less than a block from an elementary school and so get a lot of kids coming to our door on Halloween. Basically an endless parade for 2 or 3 hours. Thus we’re usually overly prepared. Any leftover candy I’ll take to my classroom the following day and let my students pig out. We have a few decorations on the porch – plastic illuminated pumpkins, battery operated candles, and the like – which will hopefully signal that we’re handing out goodies.
I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in ~20 years, probably longer. The costume options for a fat bearded guy are woefully slim.
We always have a front-yard bonfire at my house. Neighbors either put a bowl of candy on their own porches, or they stay home until T or T is over and then come to my house. I make a big pot of grog to share - it’s a fun time! So far it looks like it’ll be chilly, but clear, on Halloween.
I’m in a Chicago neighborhood of single family homes. If the weather is reasonable (not thunderstorming), I expect 100-200 kids.
I own a quality Santa outfit that I bought used years ago.
Just tell people you got your holidays confused. They ARE advertising x-mas trees already.
The houses where I live are kind of far apart and we’re on a busy road - so we don’t get trick or treaters. They all go to the developments where they can really cash in. I have a few decorations in the house and a sign that says, “The Witch Is In” on my door. My sister and I took various grandkids to a Halloween event at the zoo. The kids walked around the grounds and trick or treated at booths that were set up. I’ll probably wear a Halloween themed t-shirt on Halloween. That’s it for my Halloween celebrating. I miss the days of trick or treating (myself and taking the kids) and the costume parades at school. It was the height of a kid’s year (next to Christmas)!
I’ll be attending the Henri David Ball again. Dute to having to move suddenly, I had to scrap my plans to be Dr Finklestein from NIghtmare Before Christmas and am just doing something with my terrycloth cut away coat. I don’t know if my new building gets trick or treaters. I’ll be staying at my GF’s place in any event.
