Halo 2 -- 16 hours, 1 minute, and 14 seconds (and counting) 'til release

YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

I got it. I fianlly got it. Now I gotta go to work.

Damn, night shift sure does suck. Atleast sometime.

Just got home, see everyone in a few days.

Just got through the first level.

INSANE.
Just started the part where I get to

play as a Covenant

and I’m going to take this opportunity to go to bed. 3:20 AM my time.
I love this game.

I’ve been playing for a couple hours now and am having a blast. The only problem I’ve seen is a couple of hiccups during some of the cut scenes where the characters render right before your eyes. Not sure if it’s a problem with the game or if the graphics are pushing the limits of the XBOX. Not a big deal, just a bit distracting when it happens.
I’m a happy fan so far. Off I go again…

I’m at the beginning of Metropolis and haven’t seen anything like your spoiler. Further along or getting our goats? :dubious:

(Wheee! Been awake for over 36 hours and almost all spent playing, posting or drinking. With a Viking loss built in just cuz God loves me) I almost can’t see straight, but I ain’t sleeping till I get at least halfway.

Shall we start a clan?

No, he’s telling the truth. I’m taking a break at that point too. I have someone who wants to play coop so I’m waiting for him to get here.

Since I got a coupon for 2 months of free Live, I’m up for some clan action. I still have to buy a headset though. wort wort

Well, he said he got done with the first level, which was Cairo Station. Then he said he <insert spoiler>. The next level is Outskirts. Metropolis is the 3rd level. Did I miss something?

Eh, he was up all night so we’ll cut him slack. You can think of the first 3 levels as one section - basically Earth. You’ll see once you get past the city level. Don’t worry, you haven’t missed anything.

Cool, off to play some more. And I’ll see what’s up with the clan thing. From what I can tell you get up to 4 members and can only be a member of one clan at a time. Oh, if you do go online, you’ll need the headset as it’s the only way to let team members what’s going on.

well my gamertag is SalviaDivinorum add me to your friends list or send out an invite.

Been Playing for about 4 hours now. I am in the middle of the spoiler mentioned by Happy Scrappy Hero Pup. Now I am stuck.
If you’ve accomplished the main thing (at least it seems like the main point of this part ) while doing what Happy Scrappy Hero Pup said, read this. If not, don’t ruin your suprise.

I’ve killed all the flood I 've found … I’m just now at the point where I’ve cut all three cables and I need to kill the heretic lead guy. . I can’t effin find him anywhere. The way the game seems to be leading me is towards these up-ramping hallways with red lights, and explosions going off all over the place. On each level, there’s a door but they’re all locked. Anyone past this point yet? I just spent about a half hour running around frustrated. Thanks.

I’ve waited THREE YEARS for this damn game and I finally got it and a friend asked me to help him move this afternoon :smack:.

So I’m just home long enough to grab some lunch and I won’t get to play it until tonight.

Where’s SPOOFE, btw? He’s been conspicuously absent from this thread.

Second?! I like to think of this as number five.

I figured this out after about an hour of trying at it – it was a real :smack:

No need to reply.

Heh heh, we got to this part and stood around and looked at each other for awhile before I figured out the elevator still worked. Duh.
One thing I’m having trouble getting used to is that they split the coop play screen left to right instead of the old top to bottom setup. I haven’t found any way to change that, so I guess this is the new standard.
Oh well, my eyes hurt so I’m calling it a night. I had a great day off from work.

A while ago, the guy at Gamestop talked my wife into preordering Halo 2 for me, because all guys apparently must have it. Problem is, I never even played the first one, because I’m not generally very good at shooters. The game that made me buy an Xbox was not Halo, but Knights of the Old Republic. And Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So, should I go get Halo 2 before they expire my preorder (due to high demand, like that’s my problem  ) or what?

After the (what I consider to be) flop that was Fable, I’ve been a little cautious about getting too hyped up about a game 'fore it comes out.

Now that it’s out, I can let everyone know that my jaw has dropped far enough to do the work of twenty Lewinksi’s.

Hotdamn! Graphically, insane (as we all knew). AI improvements are nice, though there’re some strange quirks (sometimes your own guys will just dart off towards the next waypoint… and get killed 'cuz they didn’t wait for you). Storywise, a trillion times more epic. The cutscenes are phenomenal. Even the voice-acting - which I thought was excellent in the first game - has been improved.

My favorite quote so far: “When I was in the Corps, we didn’t have fancy tanks! We had sticks! Two sticks, and a rock for the whole Corps! And we had to share that rock…”

Ah… good stuff.

The new guns are great. It’s nice to see the Scattergun - er, Assault Rifle has been replaced with a far more useful upgrade. The Pistol has been appropriately nerfed, the shotgun inappropriately nerfed (I thought its strength was just fine in the first game… it was all the other guns that were pussified! :D). The new vehicle system is great… nice to see an absence of the invincible Warthogs, f’rinstance.

Man alive. I can’t wait to see what we get in Halo 3… ::drool::

I may be wrong, but I remember reading somewhere that the coop split depends on whether you have a widescreen set or not. If not check your dashboard settings and make sure they are not set to widescreen settings.

Oh yeah, this game kicks ass!!

OK. Progress report. Midnight my time and I had to stop. Fifth level.

Third MC level, two Arbiter levels done.

I like some guns, others, I hate.

SMG- even dual, it’s lame. No aim, no damage.

Battle Rifle- Daddy like. Three-shot bursts, aimable. It and the Covenant Carbine are good, standard weapons.

Shotgun- I don’t think much has changed here, honestly. I like it, especially against Flood/Sentinels.

Brute Shot- I hate this. And not because I can’t use it- I’ve had great results with it. It just feels… wrong. Same with the Rocket Launcher. It’s been nerfed, ecept for the superhuman “lock-on” function. Lame.

Plasma pistol- even more useless. The somewhat redeeming “ball of energy” that tracks enemies seems to be gone. Even Max-Payne-esque dual wieldding doesn’t fix this.

OTOH, dual plasma rifles turns ol’ MC into a walking pain-dispensation machine. Good stuff.

Haven’t used the sniper rifle yet, but am loving the Beam Rifle. One shot, one kill, as they say.

And, to paraphrase Samuel L. Jackson. “Sentinel Beam. When you absolutely, positively, GOTS to kill every motherfucker in the room. Accept no substitutes.”
Here’s where I am in the story, and people who are where I am, tell me if I’m right.

The Covenant have no idea what Halo is. They have misinterpreted what little they know of it and its instructions, not to mention the gibberish spouted by the Monitors, and think it’s going to be a Rapture-type thing that will carry them on their great journey into paradise or salvation or what have you. They don’t know that it will do that by blowing them all to tiny, tiny bits. The Little Shop of Horrors dude tried to warn the Covenant, but they ain’t buying. Meanwhile, the failure of the Elite-led fleet to defend the “sanctity” (or, if you will, “structural integrity”) of the first Halo has led to racial/class strife within the Covenant, erupting into civil/race/class warfare. The current ruling types/Prophets have the new Halo’s Index and are going to activate it, all unkowing that they are in for one hell of a surprise. I’m trying to wade through their little civil war and stop them.

This edition is much more “real.” Renderings are beautiful- backgrounds are exceptional. It makes the original look like a 1980’s Saturday morning cartoon.

The only thing I don’t like about the game is that it’s a little too “arcade” for my tastes. There are obvious “boss” characters, and some dual-wields just turn you into a juggernaut. I mean, in the original, I used to laugh at Hunters, but gave them the respect to do the old duck/dodge/shoot-‘em-in-the-back routine. Now I just wade in with my dual plasma rifles, guns a-blazin’, and watch them drop. Maybe I just find it too easy and playing on Legendary will clear that up. But it still rubs me the wrong way to not give Wraiths the respect they got in the original.

In closing, I’m having fun with it. Loving the exploring. But a lot of it feels like “Time Crisis 2,” and I kinda wish it didn’t.

I wonder if I can take off early from work tomorrow?

I don’t own an X-Box and have resisted doing so for the last three years, but after playing it over my buddy’s house tonight I am HOOKED! I have near-term plans to go out and buy an X-Box, X-Box Live and Halo 2. I enjoyed the first Halo, hosted a bunch of games at my house (fifteen people in one game, WHOOT!) and even bought an s-type controller just to play it, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that I’m this hooked this fast.

I played against a couple of my friends tonight and two rounds online. I did pretty good online and came in second on my third game (not bad for not knowing the level).

What’s the highest anyone’s ranked online? My friend is at level 5 and I can hang with him and I did okay playing with his profile online so I figure I’d be ranked the same.

Oh, and as soon as I get my gear I am so in for a Straight Dope clan.

Also, keep an eye out for my friend. His onscreen name is Ox or |Ox| and he’s really fucking obnoxious when playing this game. Shoot him in the face for me.
