Hamas attacks Israel, October 2023

Good point. Thanks.

“The jungle? What jungle? We’re in the desert.”
“I was misinformed.”

It’s looking like an airstrike was carried out against a hospital in Gaza:

One wonders if hamas guys hid in the hospital.

No doubt, but they likely killed a bunch of sick and injured Palestinians, and a lot of medical staff, as well.

I’m waiting for the email from doctors without borders to see if they lost anyone to that strike.

Israeli sources say it was a Palestinian rocket that fell short. I suppose confirmation will come soon enough.

Or not. Things are blowing up everywhere and there is no independent party present to conduct a study of what did or did not happen in the middle of an active war zone. The fog of war is at its most opaque right now. Hell, Israel itself might not know for sure if they did or didn’t bomb it.

Not necessarily. There’s livestream video and the online OSINT crowd is on the case.

I was thinking Iron Dome tracking.

Here’s some reporting on the hospital hit. Israel says the video shows it wasn’t them.

This misfired Palestinian rocket that hit the Gaza hospital accidentally (which was sheltering Hamas leadership and munitions) sure did seem to do a lot more damage than any of the Palestinian rockets that hit their target ever do.

Hell, it almost did as much damage as all the other bombs Israel has been repeatedly dropping on the same area! And this after the Israeli warning to evacuate the hospitals in case they wanted to start bombing it also.

Crazy stuff.

Trouble is, the IDF is documented making the occasional blatant lie in their official statements and so is Hamas, so do not make the mistake of drawing any conclusions until there is an independent inquiry of the whole thing (don’t hold your breath).

Maybe that’s because the IDF doesn’t keep its bombs buried underneath Israeli hospitals

Can you imagine? First they make their own hospital a legitimate wartime target, then they bomb it themselves!

I don’t recall instances of that.

From the videos, there’s no sign of any secondary explosions, which would be an indicator of the “buried bombs” you describe. If it was a Hamas missile that failed, then it would likely be carrying most of its propellant fuel. It’s difficult to assess the distance, but there were rockets being launched maybe a mile away.

There have been a few analyses of the hospital explosion on GeoConfirmed and the conclusions I’ve seen agree with you - that the large explosion would have been caused by unburnt rocket fuel.

Hamas made the rockets from water pipe they dug up. What do they use for propellant and warheads? How do they launch them? I would think they are simply ballistic without guidance.

A section of the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon has been set on fire by thousands of Hezbollah supporters.

Things seem to be spiraling out of control. Calm & rational adults need to get together to deescalate the situation. What have Antony Blinken and Jake Sullivan been doing? Isn’t this in their wheelhouse?
