Regarding this column, the Mythbusters tested this in their Mini-Myth episode, and couldn’t get it to work reliably, so they declared it busted. So when Cecil says
he was right (as usual :))
We didn’t need the Mythbusters to know that Cecil was right when he said the effectiveness was debatable. It’s been debated for decades.
