No, we do weird stuff just to stir the righties!
Lefty.
Counterclockwise until I learned that figure 8 is more effective.
Lefty, CCW
People seem to have an orientation preference based on the type of person they are. Most people feel more comfortable or stronger initiating counter-clockwise-wise from the right hand. Also pertains to stepping off with the left foot, which together with the right hand movement (looking at total body) produce a figure-eight movement pattern always in the one direction. This also lends itself to a constant preference for a slight right pivot in walking, which can really mess up a hike in the woods. For others, everything may be exactly the opposite.
I am ambidextrous. When stirring with my:
left hand = anticlockwise
right hand = clockwise
What do you mean by “the type of person they are”, and what does their stirring preference and stepping pattern say about them?
Which hand do you typically stir with, and what do you typically stir?
Lefty and clockwise.
Wanna make something out of it?
Righty clockwise. I am pretty sure if I tried stirring counter-clockwise I would make a mess. Likewise if I tried stirring left-handed in either direction. I’m old. I’m set in my ways.
On the other hand (heh) my DH, also a righty, says he alternates clockwise and counter-clockwise, and if the thing he’s stirring is thick and needs more strength he alternates hands as well as directions. He is old too but I guess not as set in his ways as me.
Right-handed and clockwise.
I could probably do left-handed and that feels like counter-clockwise.
Both hands but always counterclockwise.
Right handed. Depends. If it’s something stiff like dough, then CCW gives more leverage. Usually CW for most things, although sauces and cheese fondue get more of a figure eight to prevent sticking.
Movement preference (clock or counter-clock), which may or may not have other behavior manifestations.
What and how you are stirring something makes all the difference. If you need power, or were you turning a wheel, you prefer your right arm low and turn up counter-clockwise, which is the stronger movement. Delicate stirring to keep a soup from separating might be the opposite.
Forget stirring for a while, try this: Reach up the the sky/ceiling with both hands and begin a comfortable figure eight pattern. But be sure to initiate the pattern with your hips, not your arms. Try both ways. Which is the more comfortable orientation for your left hand, when your left hand is toward the left (there will be a retro movement to bring it back)? Clock or counter? Mine is clock, which I believe is more common. Knowing this, can tell you a lot.
Wowsers! Crossing the equator changes you from sinistral to dextral?
That’s like a mega-sensitivity to the Coriolis effect!
ambidextrous stirrer here, and which ever direction, I can’t tell you if I have a preference for counter or clockwise, never noticed.
Why do I feel like there is a dirty joke hidden in this thread that I’m missing?
left hander, use left hand to stir counter clockwise
These, mostly. But I get bored and mix it up by going the other way. Still, mostly I stir this way, and I have more strength and stamina this way.
Righty and I stir in both directions but clockwise is the most natural. Interspersing some counterclockwise stirs seems to mix things better.
