Handkerchiefs

Yeah, I never bothered with handkerchiefs until I came to Japan. I mean, it’s not only because of the reasons you have mentioned, but also because they are just so darn readily available in all sort of prints and textures and whatnot. My Japanese friends have some very pretty looking ones, but I don’t really care too much about that. I currently carry two around - an inexpensive one from Daiso and a more towel-like one with Totoro on it.

This Japanese hanky thing is quite fascinating. KNT sent me some shopping links.

Since we’re all “going green” over here, I feel like a savvy Japanese company could make these trendy in the US. I can envision a HUGE market-- people love designer labels (especially when all they can afford is a hanky), school colors, TV/film themes.

Some entrepreneurial doper needs to run with this idea and get rich!

My father had a selection of white cotton, or variant on that theme eg a blue border, handkerchiefs. He always kept one in his pants pocket.

My mother used to keep a tissue up her sleeve

She used to make me do that when I was a child. I stopped doing so when I was 5.
