The elves at work posted a how-to for handwashing at the bathroom sink, purportedly from the World Health Organization.
First line: HOW TO HANDWASH?
Small: Wash hands when visibly soiled! Otherwise, use handrub.
80% of the page: 12 step process for washing hands correctly.
So uh…tell me about this handrub? Do I want a Swedish handrub or Thai? Should I ask for the happy ending?
I assume that they mean hand sanitizer. If this is really the recommendation, over soap and water, I have to say that their advertising is stupid. Everyone and their John Oliver seems big on the soapy water.
Everything I’ve ever read, including stuff long before this recent virus outbreak, has flat out said that handwashing is better than sanitizer, in that it mechanically removes the infectious agents, instead of trying to kill them through chemical means.
I suppose it’s possible that the flyer you posted is for healthcare workers, and is engaging in a bit of assumption, in that if they say “Wash your hands every time you see a patient!” they know that a large proportion will stop doing it because their hands will get dry and cracked. So maybe they’re recommending hand sanitizer as a more tolerable substitute for routine hand disinfection rather than demand something that won’t be complied with.
