Check it out!
Oooooooooh I need one of those!
I’ll be putting myself on the waiting list in about 24 hours.
Many thanks; it might have been years more before I heard one of those or saw one myself.
Awesome piece. Thanks for sharing it.
Wow. That’s amazing, and amazingly cool, too.
I’ve been doing quite a bit of reading about these instruments and it’s gonna take a lot more than a phone call and a period on a waiting list to get one. However, I’ve never been to Bern, and this would be an excellent excuse to go, if I were selected.
If I ever end up with one, I’ll resurrect this thread to crow about it.
Man, I want one. Very cool tone.
A good friend of mine has one and it is astounding to watch her play! I really want one but can’t afford it. My best friend found a video online about how to make a pseudo-hang drum out of an empty (and never used) propane tank and made me one. It’s definitely not the same, but it adds a nice sound to our drum circles.
This is my favorite Hang video:
Here are some hang drum imitators that have sprung up due to lack of supply of the real thing:

I’ve actually used them in my shows. I played with a percussionist for some time (still a friend) who has one. Though I’m mainly on guitar, I’ve switched to the hang for brief sections. (very improvised style using loops and effects).
It is no doubt a beautiful instrument, but quite easy to sound good on since it is diatonic (i.e. there are no wrong notes).
So, how do they get a wok lid to sound like that?
Well, it’s kinda like an inverted steel drum, if that helps.
Wow, this is a new instrument to me! Amazing sound – thanks for introducing me to something new and cool!
