Part of the “issue,” I suppose, is that, in the years immediately after Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, Hollywood suddenly was taken over by the blockbuster movie, starting with Jaws (1975), then Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). Success in the movie industry became defined differently.
