Man, I’ve been in Japan for nearly 2 years and I’ve never once heard the emperor’s name until now!
I did last year get to see the palace, though. From the outside. They said they only open it up to the public on the emperor’s birthday. Don’t know if that’s true or not but if it is then I suppose lots of Japanese people were over there today.
I wish I had had a camera with me that day. There was a small pond and a large black crane was swimming in it. It was the kind of image you’d get in your head when you imagine what Japan…like OLD Japan…looks like.
