I read in the paper that as of today, the City of San Jose is 227 years old!
ahem Well, if you want to be nitpicky, the first settlement was established 227 years ago. I suppose the ‘city’ part came some years later, but it is still cool to think about the fact that my home city is nearly as old as the entire nation! Former capital of California, currently the ‘Capital of Silicon Valley’. I love my city, even if its not as touristy or landmark-heavy as San Francisco, an hour drive away.
Sometimes I think that San Jose is rather underrated as a city; I rarely hear it mentioned. The part of San Jose I live in is near the edge of they valley, and my commute takes me over a hill that, on a clear day, gives me a gorgeous view of downtown fourteen-odd miles away. I really love seeing the stretch of hillside. While I would like to eventually travel around and explore the rest of the state/nation/world, it would be hard for me to really willingly leave because I like this place so much. I’m within an hours drive from both San Francisco and Santa Cruz, two other very pleasant cities in their own respect. Yes, living here is expensive, which is a shame but sometimes it really feels worth it.
