Since I will not be near a computer tomorrow, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody (Ok, mostly US folk) a one day early happy Confederate Memorial Day! As the great-great-great-great-great nephew of Robert E. Lee, I will remember all those who fell in the war between the states. If anyone would like a short read on CMD, from the History Channel web site.
Hand over heart.
O, I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.
In Dixie Land where I was born in
Early on one frosty mornin’
Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.
Chorus:
O, I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie Land I’ll take my stand
To live and die in Dixie
|: Away, away, away down south in Dixie!
I doubt you’ll get much positive response on this.
My great-great grandfather was a Corporal in a Missouri regiment. He survived the war, though. Which is good, because my great grandfather was born in 1869!
Well, in honor of Confederate Memorial Day, here’s a toast to my great-great-great-grandfather, John Chisholm of South Carolina, who was a Confederate Veteran. He may have been on the losing side, but hey, ya can’t win 'em all.
.:Nichol:.
My great-great grandfather got shot in the head at the battle of shiloh. Had a deep “Hole” or dimple right in the middle of his forehead. He developed “palsy” or shaking because of it and the photo we have of him and his family is kinda funny. Everyone standing around this old man looking somber - old man with dimpled forehead and blurry hands from the shaking.
No relation to General Lee, in fact the one direct ACW ancestor I’ve found so far fought for the Union.
Happy CMD none the less…
