Yes, America has finally achieved a cultural breakthrough in Iraq. Generations of Shiite and Sunni communites had faced each other through a haze of mistrust and hostility. Until last week, when America deomstrated its commitment to free speech and a free press by shutting down an opposition newspaper.
Today the two communities have a common goal, a shared vision. It matters little the the vision includes lining the banks of the Tigris with American dead, the really beautiful thing is that they have reached ouy to each other. The new goverment is far more likely to succeed if the two major factions can continue their cooperation.
