Good luck with your impending job search. I hope you find another (and much better) position very soon.
Oh and count me in with the others who had a blotch on one mammogram that turned out to be nothing upon further examination.
Don’t forget to be a “tits out woman”. Walk with your shoulders back and your girls proudly standing out front. The improved posture will also help improve your mood. (at least it did for me but maybe it was the phrase “tits out woman”).
Sorry to hear that, pinkfreud. On the positive side, you have more time to be with your new babies now. (Small consolation, I know.)
My commiserating story - I bought a new house by myself (no SO or anything), took possession of said house; later that month, I had minor surgery, went back to work, then got a message on my answering machine at home telling me not to come in again on Monday cause I was fired. Humph. At least they didn’t fire me while I was still recuperating at home.
My point is that as bad is it seems now, you will get through it, and it does get better. Numb is normal for having had a couple of shocks.
The abnormal mammo doesn’t mean anything more than that yet, and you’re going for follow-up and everything, so you’re doing all you can do for that. I come from lumpy folk; we’re always finding lumps and bumps where they don’t belong. It doesn’t have to mean anything.
When you’re ready, you can look for work again. But don’t be afraid to take some time off and enjoy life before you go hunting, if you can afford it.
So sorry to hear about the bad news, pinkfreud. Hope there’s a way to find quick replacement income. And, of course, hope the mammo news turns out to be a false alarm. There really do seem to be an awful lot of those.
Go hug Henry and Dolly (Dali?). Or give them baths.
I’m really sorry that things are tough for you right now. You do have plenty of reason to be optimistic about the mammogram though, and more work will come along.
You have friends here who care about you very much! Keep us up to date on how you are doing.
Pinkfreud Good thoughts of hope to you. While it is horrible, hopefully, all of the misfortune will happen at the same time, and you can move on with your life after that negative mammo.
What??
Okay, on a more serious note, sorry to hear about the misfortunes befalling you – it’s gotta suck on numerous levels. I had a friend who’d done the contract work thing several times. Once he was even contracted to IBM. Then they outsourced his entire department to India and he was out of a job. He was fortunate only in that having IBM on his resume was a highly regarded feather in his cap that managed to get him numerous jobs – or at least interviews – since. Personally I’ve never gone the contract route solely because job insecurity makes me queasy. It’s hard enough being secure in an employee capacity. Contract work just guarantees you won’t be staying there and climbing the corporate ladder.
As for the mammogram, I wouldn’t put too much stock in it until something more conclusive shows up. Statistically the odds favour benign “irregularities” over more serious conclusions. The body’s a quirky old thing and most of its mysterious dealings are largely harmless. Even if it does turn out to be something less than favourable, the chances are good that it’s been caught early enough to be treatable. Either way I’d say you’re still in pretty good shape overall.
