Is today the opening day at Ascot, or something? Unless it’s that, I have no idea what you’re talking about.

"In Act 1 of My Fair Lady, Eliza Doolittle, the Cockney flower girl learning to speak like a lady, fantasizes about meeting the king. Of course, because it’s a musical, she sings:

One evening the king will say, 'Oh, Liza, old thing — I want all of England your praises to sing. Next week on the twentieth of May, I proclaim Liza Doolittle Day."

Okay, tyvm.

So it’s a UK thing.

In the U.S.A. (of course) Congress would by now have arranged for it to fall on a Monday (most likely the third Monday of the month). So for us Murkins, yesterday was Liza Doolittle Day.

No doubt the twentieth of May that year was a Monday!

(I’m American, btw.)
