You’re quite right that the official day is today. I’d say almost universally, we think of the whole weekend as being Thanksgiving.
In my family, we have our feast dinner on whatever day it can work out that all of us can get together - this year, it was Saturday. There are also several side traditions - the Rockton World’s Fair is always Thanksgiving weekend, and this is the last weekend that African Lion Safari is open, so we always meet up with family and friends and go to those. This is also the weekend that Centreville (on Centre Island) closes for the winter, which is why I’ll be off the computer again in a few minutes.
