You are absolutely allowed to have your opinion, and to vote in whatever way you see best. And I’m allowed to question the rationality of your opinion, and attempt to sway you to an opinion that is less judgemental and ignorant. If you have a problem with that, perhaps the SDMB isn’t the best place for you to be posting your opinions.
That said, would you care to address a single thing I’ve said to you in this entire thread, or should I just go ahead and assume your refusal to rebut any of my arguments as evidence that you are unable to do so?
Otto, I like your point, although I don’t like how you said it. I remember a gay friend expressing suprise one time that heterosexual porn often didn’t have condoms. He said that he had never seen a gay porn where the actors weren’t using condoms. It made me wonder why straight porn didn’t use condoms. Strange. I’m not sure if homosexuals (in general) are more inculturated with the idea of “always use a condom” or what. If that’s the case, you’re partly right. We in society need to do a better job of promoting condom use to everybody, not just homosexuals. That should probably start at school, but that’s another Pit thread altogether.

Why are we talking about voting? vanilla, you would certainly not be the first person who tried to outlaw or ban porn (see pretty much anybody vs. Hustler), but it’s always been upheld as a first ammendment right. For instance, Maryland tried recently:

I’m really intrigued by this whole notion of “straight porn consumers [in other words, straight men] won’t buy porn if the guy is wearing a rubber.” The people who say this seem to be the same ones who in every other straight porn thread go to great lengths (pun not intended) to proclaim their lack of interest in looking at male genitalia. If straight male viewers are so uninterested in penis, why care if the penis you don’t want to look at has a rubber on it?
Right this goes back to the old days of porn…the external wasn’t created as a fetish back then, but as proof of sex itself…of the results of sex. The results in a condom can be faked…but when a guy releases and the camera does cut away…he’s completed the act.
I would imagine that we’ve all been conditioned to see the external…of course it’s gone the other way and the internal is king…but that’s another thread.
A heck of a lot of (hell, probably most) of the action films out of Hong Kong use very unsafe stunts. Michelle Yeoh was injured pretty badly right around the time she was shooting “Story of a Stuntwoman”; Jackie Chan has broken more bones than I can think of and even was hospitalized for one really bad fall - the footage of which was included in his “bloopers” shots that traditionally roll over the credits of his films. And that’s only what happened to a couple of the stars, much less all of the other stuff that’s happened to stars and stunt people alike in that film industry.
I still love those films, though. Sorry.
Otto, straights* still don’t think they’re vulnerable; that’s basically what it comes down to. The “latex is sexy” message hasn’t gotten through that well.

When someone dies in a stunt accident, it usually is Big News in L.A. Injuries? Not so much. But deaths, yeah.
A lot of these stunts are definitely risky, but the risk can be anywhere from a sprained wrist, to several broken limbs, to death. With AIDS, there is one basic end result: death. Thank God that advancements in medicine have made the death a long way off (for those with the finances, anyway), but it’s still considered a fatal disease, no?

One thing that kinda puzzles me about the AIDS risk is that anal sex is fairly widespread in mainstream porn tapes nowadays, at least, I’ve seen a lot of tapes advertsing that. So basically female pornstars are doing pretty much the same thing male pornstars do plus vaginal/cockular intercourse, apparently without benefit of condoms in many instances. So why aren’t they having an AIDS epidemic? Is it that the male pornstars tend not to be HIV positive because of all the testing, and because they tend not to participate in gay sex?
And yet an American (Bill Gates) has made a nice chunk of change and set up a BILLION DOLLAR foundation for AIDS care in Africa.

Due to my last post I should probably go on record as saying I too think it’s reprehensible to sneer at or be tickled by the idea that someone may have contracted a serious, or in the case of AIDS, potentially fatal disease, but to smear all humans with the brush of condescention, such as **elfbabe ** did is just a tad silly and presumptuous, IMHO.
Uh, I confess I’m lost. I am not sure I know what is so objectionable about elfbabe’s post. I thought she was mocking the smug ones, nothing more. Can someone clue me in here?

Evil Captor, anal does seem “widespread” these days (Dog almighty it’s impossible to not use inappropriate accidental puns on this subject…) but that’s another supply/demand thing, a result of catering to the “raincoater” crowd who wants their porn “nastier”. FWIW the upscale “yuppie-porn” houses like Vivid hardly ever feature any anal, and it’s not uncommon for the really “high end” performers to specifically exclude it from their contracts.(Me, if I wanted “nasty” I’d get some hentai anime or manga. The expectation that the men “not participate in gay sex” wouldn’t be too sound as many a porn-stud has done gay-for-pay, or even straight-for-pay – Peter North being a notable one.
