Off-game: good one! I was just watching a show about the 1972 Miami Dolphins’ perfect season last night, and had forgotten that Seiple’s fake punt in the AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers was pivotal for Miami’s comeback win. Without Seiple doing that (his own call, he looked up and saw no rush coming so he took off running and got the first down), the Dolphins doubtfully win the game and finish the season 15-1. The Dolphins then went on to win Super Bowl VII, 14-7 against the Washington Redskins to complete their perfect 17-0 season (even though Garo Yepremian botched that blocked FG attempt and Mike Bass scored the Skins’ only TD).

Before that Yepremian gaffe, one of the most famous ever in Super Bowl history, Don Shula and the Dolphins were looking to win that game 17-0. The symmetry of the score and their season record would have just been a little more perfect.

*Also, those Steelers had just won the previous week’s playoffs game against the Raiders with the Immaculate Reception play. *All in all a great NFL season, unless you’re a fan of the Raiders, Steelers or Redskins.

Sorry for rambling on, now back to our game!
