I’ve been trying to add a second hard drive to a PC. Both drives have been set to “cable select”, I’m reasonably sure its in working order but Windows refuses to show it under “My Computer”, but will recognise it under the “System Information” window (found under Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools).
Another old HD added in its place is recognised and displayed in both “My Computer” and “System Information”, what’s holding up the first one?
Right-click My Computer, hit Manage, and click on Disk Management under Storage in the left pane. Assuming the problem drive shows up, right-click on it and hit Change Drive Letter and Path. See if it will let you assign it a letter.
Is it formatted?
IIRC it won’t show up unless it is.
If you’re running XP, go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management and select “Disk Management”.
The disk should show up at the bottom of the screen, where you can right-click and format it.
If it’s already formatted, then I’m not sure what might be wrong.
