I had been storing a couple CD images on my hard drive, and yesterday finally got around to backing them up deleting them in order to free up the space. Just out of dumb luck, I checked my available drive space before and after the delete and found it did not change by the gig or so it should have. Adding up the space taken up by all directories at the root (using DiskSpace Explorer) is just about a gig less than what Windows ME tells me is used disk space. Where is my missing space? To recap what I have thought to try:[ul]- Scandisk came up with nothing, the drive tests clean.
- Defragging did not free up any additional space.
- A search for any files larger than 200 meg did not turn up the culprit.
- A search for fragments (file*.*) did not turn up anything.
- Disk cleanup did not free up any appreciable space.
- I accounted for hidden files such as _Restore.
- I emptied every temp or tmp folder on the drive. [/ul]I may just be misunderstanding normal Windows ME behavior, but it certainly seems strange to me. Any help would be appreciated.
