Harley bashing & Coldfire

Adding to hijack.

Paki is as bad as nigger in this part of the world but your Prez can use it in a press conference as it’s not in the US. So I can understand that different places = different rules.

But a Harley is the only bike wide enough to support the gut of the average Harley owner.

[HIJACK]

I didn’t know that. I’ve only had one Pakistani friend, and it wasn’t a hang up for her, but I will remember that in the future…
[/HIJACK]

Furthering the hijack:

Is that just because of how it is generally used? Doesn’t “Stan” mean “land of”? Following that logic, would not a person from Pakistan be a Paki (as in the groups whose land it is?). Are people from Afghanistan Afghanis?

Try getting “jap” in any form on a license plate.

“J.A.P.” is considered to be offensive slang for Jewish females.

I won’t say you’re definitely wrong, but it quite possible that there are Japanese-Americans in your community that do find it offensive. Most Asian-Americans are also not Japanese and so can’t really judge either.

Yeah I’d go along with that.

I can see how Jap would be in the US to be offensive. WWII and all that.

It’s almost entirely how it’s used, as opposed to what it means. Pakistan translates a “land of the pure”, but the average BNP’er isn’t using “paki” to call someone Pure.

Bandanaman, are you a biker or a weekend warrior?

Please tell me I’m being whooshed. If not, you’re quite possibly the most offended and P.C. person I’ve ever had the misfortune of interacting with-and I have a high threshold for that sorta stuff since I can be a little on the sensitive side to offending material.

Sam

Yes, I think you are. I was mainly commenting on the recent confusion around here regarding the “no hate speech” rule. Hard to tell exactly what the Mods will find offensive these days.

D’oh, sumbitch!

Not quite.

Do you know what the “R” in most of the Buell model designations stands for?

“Recall”.

“But I’ll always regret that Rwandan thing.” --Bill Clinton

More proof that it’s closely related to its cousin the Harley

Gotta love a thread that starts out with a whine and gets hijacked into a discussion of epitaphs.

No, you are not being whooshed. “Jap,” “J.A.P.,” “ricer,” and “Paki” are offensive terms, oh, pretty much anywhere. They may not be offensive to the same extent as “nigger,” “kike,” or “wog” but they are still offensive and not to be used in polite conversation. It may be hard to keep track of what is offensive these days so here is a simple rule of thumb: As “polite conversation” and “biker” are rarely heard together you can assume that any biker word should not be used in polite conversation.

They’re funny because they’re true.[/homer]

Don’t you mean “epithets”?

well, both, since we are talking about Harleys.

Hey, if I were to call Qadgop a “dirty Mercky”, would that be considered hate speach?

Yeah, he was, sort of. I wasn’t trying to be P.C. and such terms don’t offend me but my opinion doesn’t really matter. It’s the Mods’ opinions we all need to worry about.

I’m not sure about “ricer” being offensive though.
