As for violence? Violence is inevitable as long as the Right exists; they are right wing and the right wing is always violent. Trump winning or losing won’t change that, it’ll only change how much assistance they get in their violence from the government.
My first reaction would be total non-surprise. It would be like finding out that the Yankees had beaten a high school baseball team (albeit a racist, boorish, trollish, illogical, immature, clownish team.)
My second reaction would be to see how muted the conservative/Trump reaction is, after all that hot air about how they would contest the election.
Yes, releif will pretty much sum it up. Like having a tooth ache for days and then getting it treated kind of releif.
The opposite of relief will happen if Trump manages to win. Pretty much all out panic. I’ll hasten my exit from the country before he screws everything up.
Already doing that. My temple has an immigrant resettlement group that I’ve been active in. The first family we sponsored (right before Trump’s first term) is now established enough that they are sponsoring some relatives. I actually waffled on contributing to the group just now because I’m anxious about bringing new migrants in under a trump regime.
Add me to “a sigh of relief”.
I’m not convinced i have good options to avoid that.
My first reaction will be relief that sanity has prevailed.
On the trials front, I anticipate Trump trying to argue that because of successful election interference he should be President right now and the courts shouldn’t be able to touch him. I look forward to judges pooping on this argument. I have said before that I think Trump is going to immediately declare himself the Presidential candidate for 2028 but I don’t think that will grant him any meaningful delays in the courts. And if this is how he wants to spend the rest of his life, well… you do you, Donald.
It will be interesting to see what the Republican party does. Do they stand by their man and continue to throw good money after bad? Or do they finally figure out that he is causing them to lose elections and finally dump him? Do they get rid of the cult or do they try to hang onto it minus the leader? Or do they just give the party over to Trump until he dies, letting him run a perpetual campaign of grievance?
While I’m certainly not reserving all reaction until then: that will also be moment of significant relief.
So will getting through the certification of the vote. I was watching that online last time when suddenly the sound disappeared and the screen was briefly full of people running in various directions – and then blank.
Unless they are marching down my street with torches, I’m going to do my best to ignore the MAGA horror show for a couple years. I won’t even follow Trump’s judicial and financial difficulties.
That will depend on how many electoral votes Harris wins by and where. If it’s down to a narrow victory in single purple state (and especially if that state is Georgia, which is unlikely) I’ll be anxious about certification. Otherwise I look forward to seeing Trump get increasing shrill and delusional as his attempts to seize power and avoid prison fail.
Agreed. But I would define ‘minimum’ as whatever is needed to prevent a coup. If some of his supporters have to die at the hands of law enforcement and the National Guard, that’s their cost of doing their evil business.
