Didn’t see this appearance but yes, I have noticed this to the point that I’ve often wondered whether he bakes before an interview.

Harrison Ford hates interviews. He thinks of himself as being very dull, so anything that isn’t about what’s happening right now that second (i.e. the movie he’s promoting) makes him uncomfortable. And even then, he’d rather not, if he can avoid it.

Also regarding his hatred of interviewing:

The A.V. Club: You have a reputation for hating doing publicity interviews. Does having that out front help? Do you think it makes people approach you any differently?

Harrison Ford: I didn’t know that I had that reputation. I think that was something that—obviously you’ve done your research, but I think I was characterized that way early on in my career, and it stuck. I don’t mind doing interviews. I don’t mind answering thoughtful questions. But I’m not thrilled about answering questions like “If you were being mugged, and you had a lightsaber in one pocket and a whip in the other, which would you use?”

My pet theory is that he suffered a stroke a couple years ago. I dont remember him being such a bad interviewee. He was on Conan a while back promoting that Indiana Jones sequel, and he seemed completely out of it. Part of his face looks droopy too. Either that or he’s a drunk/addict.

Wow, just in this morning’s Chicago Red Eye, they had an interview between their guy and Ford where he ASKED THIS QUESTION. AV Club is based in Chicago so I imagine Ford did the interviews with both writers on the same day (probably when he was just here for his new movie’s premiere). I’m not a big fan of the Red Eye’s writer (his questions are usually inane) so this quip from Ford really made me laugh.

I remember him being very awkward on Letterman or The Tonight Show a long time ago. I can’t even remember the film he was promoting. My pet theory is that he suffered a mid-life crisis (hence the idiotic earing). Personally, I have found him very annoying ever since.

I would doubt either option. The guy owns and pilots seven aircraft, including a jet and a helicopter. I seriously doubt that his license would be renewed if he had had a stroke, and I suspect we would have heard about a smoking hole in the ground if he was a drunk.
