"Harry Potter = flaming queer" says Rev.

Yep. Gotta love the homophobic preachers.
What the fuck is this guy’s problem? Apparently his problem is not with witchcraft, but the fact that he sees Potter as gay.

Where the hell did this come from?

Isn’t Harry Potter supposed to be pre-pubescent? How can he be gay? So what if he is? Who gives a shit?

He’s not gay, he’s just British.

He’s no longer pre-pubescent. I think he’s 17 now, and the books make it clear that he’s into girls. He’s even done some “snogging” in the latest book.

Harry has been a teenager for most of the series. There is no reason to suppose he’s gay and he’s shown interest in girls many times.

I think his problem is that Rowling’s books are kicking his book’s asses in the marketplace. The article says he got $4 million for the movie rights to his books. Rowling uses $4 million to wipe her ass.

Haha obviously you haven’t seen some of the fan fiction out there. Harry Potter is gay! He loves Draco! Or Snape! And he’s pregnant! :smack:

After actually reading the story, it seems to me like the Reverend was just making a joke.

He’s also right about television and kind of right about the Harry Potter villains (but that’s to be expected for children’s books).

I guess I need some help on the use of the phrase “only gay in the village.” What does that mean on the show that the story claims it’s from? Is this just a case of a Priest trying to be hip and use a pop culture catchphrase to connect with some kids and having it backfire?

I wish Harry Potter was gay. It’d make fanfic a lot more canon. I think Weirddave’s right though, the man’s just jealous. Have you ever tried to read the Shadowmancer series? He was portrayed as the next JK Rowling, but IMO, the books are just plain boring.

‘Davith’ lives in a small Welsh village. He’s ‘the only gay in the village’ and dresses the part, and is very militant about it. The gag is that nobody cares if he’s gay. Many of the other villagers admit to having gay experiences in the past (though they’re not gay). Whenever a gay person comes to town, Davith is very offended. He’s the only gay in the village!

Funny show. Check out BBC America.

Well, he does seem to take an extreme interest in wands. He even shakes them about and talks to them. Sometimes stuff flies out of the wands when he shakes them the right way.

But from this we can infer that Hermoine sure as hell aint a dike. That girl knows how to handle a wand.

This thread is moving far too fast! Each time I preview someone has beat me to it. At any rate I think Diogenes has got it. Misguided attempt at street cred rather than homophobia.

From that explanation, I think he was saying that Harry is not the only fantasy hero (or that Harry Potter the series isn’t the only fantasy series around). Or perhaps that the series/character just isn’t that special. Davith is special because he’s “the only gay in the village”, but since Harry Potter isn’t, he’s not.

So, the guy wasn’t literally saying Harry is gay, he just used a joking allusion to a BBC show to make his point, the teachers got wooshed and stopped the talk, and this whole thing is more of a tempest in a teapot than usual.

I think you nailed it, amok .

What happens when you replace ‘wand’ with ‘wang’ in Harry Potter. (cached link as bash.org is misbehaving)

The Welsh name is ‘Dafydd’, which is the Welsh version of ‘David’. Although on the website and credits, they spell it ‘Daffyd’. Not sure if that is a proper alternative, I’ll try asking some of my Welsh friends if I remember.

Holy Longwang, lno, that’s some funny shit. I can’t believe I’d never seen that before.

Oh yeah, forgot the main point :smack: .

Can’t really see what it was that CynicalGabe is claiming as ‘homophobic’?

Hermione, after Harry rids himself of Dobby: “Honestly, Harry! You coulda hadda bit o’ cock, there!”

Well, it seemed like the Rev. was insulting Harry Potter by calling him gay, which is at least mildly homophobic. But I think Amok has nailed down what he was really trying to say.

That’s right. Every show on BBCA features Daffyd Thomas. Wire in the Blood, Footballers’ Wives, even old reruns of Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Blackadder.

Sorry, Johnny L.A, just yanking your chain. The sketches with Daffyd Thomas are featured on Little Britain. Check it out.

Ya but no but ya but anyways, like Dio’s post already established that and Johnny LA was replying directly to him but you shouldn’t listen to anything he says because he likes to bum the older boys in the shed behind the football pitch everybody knows about it.
