Harvey Milk biopic

Milk
I saw a trailer for this in front of Burn After Reading the other day. It’s directed by Gus Van Sant and stars Sean Penn in the title role. It looks great and Penn looks like he’s nailing it in the trailer. I believe it said it was coming out in November and it looks like total Oscar bait.

I’m kind of surprised no one has done a movie on this subject before (if you’re unfamiliar with Milk, here’s his wiki page. He had a very compelling personality and story, and looking back now, I think his historical significance is probably underappreciated.

Still, as I watched Penn acting his heart out in the trailer, I couldn’t help hearing Robert Downey Jr’s voice saying, “never go full queer.”

Looks like a stellar movie with a great cast and director. Has anyone else seen the trailer?

Yeppers!

I had only seen it on the computer, until tonight, when I went to see Burn After Reading for the 2nd time, I saw the trailer on the big screen. Of course it was even more powerful.

I’ve really got to see this movie. My roommate in college was a family friend of the Moscones. It was a surreal tragedy.

Well, actually, there was an Oscar winning film, The Times of Harvey Milk about this.

The film was so good, I am less inclined to go see the “Hollywood” version, but having met Gus Van Sant a couple of times, I will want to see what he does with it.
