Hugh Scott (Senate Minority Leader), John Rhodes (Senate Minority Leader) and Barry Goldwater (Grand Old Man of the GOP) told Nixon to his face that he was SOL the evening before he resigned. Up until then he seemed to have harbored hopes that he could muster enough votes in the Senate to avoid conviction, but the three — especially Goldwater — poured a tanker truck of cold water on that idea.
