Has Any Group of People Ever Been Found to Have Extraordinary Life Spans?

Years ago, a Harvard doctor searched the world and found areas where people (apparently) lived much longer lives than normal. One such area was a valley in Peru (I think). Supposedly, this area had lots of people living past 100. My question: has this been verified? I once heard of a similar place in Russia-turns out the extraordinary life spans were false-young men would assume their father’s identities to avoid being drafted into the army!

The traditional inhabitants of Okinawa were known to routinely live into their 80s and 90s with few chronic health problems, and centurians were far from unknown. This doesn’t appear to be some kind of superhuman resistance to aging, but rather an artifact of their diet and lifestyle, in which a high fiber, fresh vegetable, limited lean protein diet and habitual moderate exercise (along with strong familial and social support) featured strongly. In modern times, with the younger generations of Okinawans adopting Western-style diets and an industrialized lifestyle, rates of illness and mortality dropped to levels within the expected range for an industrialized population.

I understand this is a common trait among the elderly.

Yeah, and the odd thing is, actuariallly speaking, the older you get, the more likely you are to live longer. Well, until you die, anyway.

I have seen a few studies that showed populations of nuns that had unusual longevity. One is below although there have been more recent studies. It is believed that their aversion to beef helped this along.
